Hi Old Shasta,

Mark your calendars: Defensible Space Inspectors from Shasta County Fire/CAL FIRE will be visiting your neighborhoods in the coming weeks.

Their goal is simple: help property owners reduce wildfire risk before fire season intensifies.

Now is the time to create defensible space and improve firefighter access by clearing dry grass, leaves, brush, and other flammable materials around your home.

Start with the areas closest to your home:
Remove dead leaves and debris
Clean roofs and gutters
Mow grass and weeds
Trim dead branches
Keep clearance around generators and fuel storage

Wildfire safety starts on your property. A more prepared home helps protect your family, your neighbors, and your community.

Important Shasta County Ordinance information, please share.

Last year, Shasta County enacted an ordinance that requires unincorporated properties to clean up dead and dying vegetation.
The goal: help prevent fire from spreading if it ever comes to these areas of Shasta County.

If you live in any of these areas, be sure to read through this ordinance so you know what you need to do on your property to create defensible space.

Lake Shasta is one of Northern California’s most popular recreation spots. Every year, thousands of visitors come here for boating, water skiing, camping, house boating, and fishing.
What many people don’t see is the emergency response system working behind the scenes to keep everyone safe.
The Shasta County Fire Department operates two fire-rescue boats that provide emergency services across Lake Shasta. These boats respond to a wide variety of incidents, including water rescues, medical aids, boat collisions, boat fires, vegetation fires, search and rescue missions, and many other calls for service.
Shasta County Fire Boat Program personnel work side‑by‑side with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Boating Safety Unit throughout the year.
The Shasta County Fire Department remains committed to protecting the residents and visitors of Lake Shasta—on the water, in the surrounding communities, and anywhere emergency services are needed.

CAL FIRE Shasta-Trinity Unit’s Hillcrest Station 75, and Shasta County Fire Department Company 71, proudly volunteered with our local VFW Post during the Memorial Day BBQ in the Round Mountain/Montgomery Creek community.

We always appreciate the opportunity to work side by side with Shasta County Fire while supporting our community and honoring the brave men and women who served our country. Memorial Day remembrance with our veterans was truly priceless. 🇺🇸

What does it mean to "stay ready” for wildfire?

It starts with your yard.

Wildfire spreads when it has things to burn—dry leaves, overgrown grass, debris.

When you clear it, you:
Create space between fire and your home
Give firefighters safer access
Buy critical time for evacuation.
