Youth & Family Programs- Shasta County Since 1984 Youth & Family Programs has been providing a supportive, safe, and stable environment for foster families and foster children.

Youth and Family Programs was established in 1984. We work with children age infant to 21 years old who have been detained by Butte and Shasta County. We also offer Transitional Housing and the Independent Living Program for our youth in extended foster care. There are over 58,000 children in the foster care system in California. Foster care provides a stable environment that assures a child's safety and well-being while their parents attempt to resolve the issues that lead to the out-of-home placement. Anyone who is safe, stable, adult, married, or single with room in their hearts and home for children in need can become a foster parent. You must be willing to be responsible for the care of a foster child, be willing to become a part of our team, and be able to meet the Community Care Licensing requirements.

💙 SOCIAL WORKERS GIVE SO MUCH — BUT THEY CAN’T DO IT ALONE.

Every day, child welfare social workers show up for children and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. They advocate, coordinate services, support foster families, respond to crises, attend meetings, complete documentation, and work tirelessly to help children find safety and stability.

But the demands of this work can take a serious toll.

High caseloads, staffing shortages, emotional exhaustion, and burnout continue to impact social workers across the country.

And this is where foster families can make a difference, too. 💛

When more safe, stable, supportive foster homes are available, children have greater opportunities for consistency and connection — and social workers have more families partnering alongside them to meet the needs of children in care.

Becoming a foster parent means joining a TEAM committed to helping children heal, grow, and build brighter futures.

One of the biggest misconceptions about social work is that it only involves Child Protective Services or the Department of Human Resources.

While child welfare is an important part of the profession, social work goes far beyond that!

From healthcare and mental health to education, veterans’ services, criminal justice, and policy advocacy, social workers make a difference in countless ways.

Different populations. Different settings. One shared purpose: advocating for others and creating meaningful change.

Before the day gets away from us, we want to take a moment to recognize some truly amazing people, organizations, businesses, and community members who helped make today’s event such a success.

Today was about more than beautiful cars and a great community gathering — it was about coming together for one purpose: raising funds to purchase BRAND-NEW BIKES for kids right here in Shasta County! 🚲✨

💙 Ted — Thank you for the countless hours you have spent talking with members of our community, sharing the mission of Bikes for Kids, and encouraging others to support a cause that is so near and dear to your heart. Your passion and dedication continue to make a difference.

💙 The Staff of Youth and Family Programs — Thank you for always showing up for our kids and families in every way possible. Thank you for sharing the stories behind this cause, educating our community, and helping people understand just how meaningful something as simple as a brand-new bike can be to a child.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

In foster care, we spend so much of our time caring for others—supporting children, strengthening families, showing up for one another, and helping our communities thrive. This October, we want to remind our resource parents, biological families, staff, partners, and community members that taking care of YOU matters too. 💗

Breast cancer affects millions of individuals and families around the world, and while it is much more common in women, men can be diagnosed too.

💕 Know the signs.
💕 Keep up with recommended screenings.
💕 Encourage the people you love to take care of their health.
💕 Support those who are fighting, honor those we have lost, and celebrate survivors.

Our foster care community is built around caring for others. This month, make sure you are extending some of that same care to yourself.

At Youth & Family Programs, we believe every young person in foster care deserves to feel remembered, supported, and celebrated—especially during the holidays.

Each year, our agency helps make sure that youth in foster care have the opportunity to receive a bicycle for Christmas through Bikes for Kids. For many of our youth, receiving a bike is so much more than receiving a Christmas present. It’s a chance to experience the excitement, independence, and simple joy that comes with having a bike of their very own. 🚲🎄

That’s why we are proud to be involved with the Bikes for Kids Car Show. By helping with the car show and spreading the word, we hope to bring our community together to support this incredible tradition and help Bikes for Kids continue reaching local children and youth.
We are incredibly thankful for the businesses, community members, car enthusiasts, volunteers, organizers, and sponsors who have stepped up to support this event. Your involvement directly helps create special Christmas memories for youth in our community.

This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position supporting our Redding office, helping keep things organized, assisting with data and file tracking, and partnering with our team on agency events and family engagement activities.

✨ $24.00/hour
🕘 Monday–Friday | 9:15 AM–5:15 PM
⭐ Every other Friday early dismissal at 4:00 PM — paid until 5:00 PM!
