I spent Monday morning in Eastern Shasta County meeting with members of the Pit River Tribe as we discussed PL-280. Public Law 280 was enacted in 1953 in six states, including California. The law transferred federal law enforcement authority within certain tribal nations to state governments.
Under the Act, states, local sheriffs and state law enforcement agencies take tribal members to state courts for prosecution in cases arising from criminal matters within reservation boundaries.
Myself and Lieutenants Estes and Fernandez appreciated the opportunity to talk about how this piece of legislation affects the tribe and our agency, and we look forward to continued collaboration.

The Redding V.F.W. Post 1934 will soon be moving to the location pictured below. Today, my wife and I had the opportunity to have lunch at a fundraising BBQ at their current home on Oregon Street. A great time with some wonderful people. I can't wait to see the new site!

Upon review of the League of Women’s Voter Sheriff-Coroner candidate forum I realized I misspoke in regards to the ma*****na statistics. Although the cumulative number of operations I reported at that forum were correct, the number of operation led by the Sheriff’s department were incorrect. Below reflects the accurate updated Shasta County Sheriff’s Office ma*****na eradication statistics as of August 2021:

Total of Operations: 47

2021 - 39 operations
2022 - 8

Of the 47 total operations since August of 2021, 24 have been led by the Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office has assisted on 23 other operations with allied agencies.

Total Plants: over 40 thousand plants, over 3,400 pounds of processed ma*****na and 62 pounds of concentrated cannabis.

2 Butane Honey Oil labs have been dismantled.

27 fi****ms have been confiscated from the operations.

13 filed cases between Shasta County Law Enforcement

$56,800 has been confiscated

Our guys did a great job taking down another drug house and local dealer in the City of Shasta Lake. This was a patrol level operation and search warrant. A good example of how being proactive and aggressively going after the problems can make a difference! Just because the State if California has gone soft on drug laws, doesn’t mean we are going to stop protecting our communities. Great job by all our staff!

Reason #937 why I love living in Palo Cedro and Shasta County. I caught these fine folks rolling into Palo. I noticed they were proudly flying dual “thin blue line” flags so i had to investigate. Not surprised to find that the occupants were 100% solid Americans, patriotic, law enforcement supportive, and just good people. It makes it easy to defend the citizens of such a great county!
