It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Life Member, former EMS Captain, and former Fire Police Lieutenant Wade Roese. Wade passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

Wade served as EMS Captain from 2002 to 2012, and most recently as Fire Police Lieutenant. He instructed the emergency vehicle operator course (EVOC) and was instrumental in certifying drivers for our ambulance and utility truck. As an EMS instructor, he played a key role in certifying numerous EMTs and EMRs, within our department and with Joel Barlow High School. When not instructing, he served as the fire company Vice President.

Wade was a talented musician, architectural designer, and cartographer. He hand-drew maps of every address in town—maps that have been used every day for decades to guide us. He also designed our fire company logo, which proudly adorns our equipment, fire stations, and uniforms.

Wade's talent and passion for serving Redding remain abundantly clear and deeply valued. His legacy will never be forgotten.

A memorial service will be held at the Redding First Church of Christ on Saturday, August 22, at 11:00.

Redding Fire & EMS Co. #1 was honored to participate in the Tunnel to Towers 5K in Bethel this year. This incredible event pays tribute to FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller, who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11, running through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel in full gear to reach the Twin Towers. 🚒
We were proud to come together as a department to support such a meaningful cause and represent our community. We are also grateful to be recognized with the most participants, the most money raised, and two of the fastest runners in gear — including 2nd and 3rd place finishes by Jackson Alward and Nicole Angelescu, respectively.
Being able to participate alongside fellow firefighters, first responders, families, and community members was an incredible reminder of the brotherhood and dedication that connects us all.

Many of us are participating in the Bethel Tunnel to Towers 5K this weekend to benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

This is a remarkable organization near and dear to our hearts. They pay off mortages to families of fallen military members and first responders, adapt homes for those who are catastrophically injured, provide housing to homeless veterans, and scholarships.

Stephen Siller was a firefighter for the Fire Department of New York City (FDNY) who, upon learning of the world trade center attacks, drover to the Red Hook section of Brooklyn, abandoned his truck, grabbed his gear, and ran to the scene. He was never seen again.

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of this ultimate sacrifice, which we will never forget.

Please support our team at the link below, if you can.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk - Bethel, CT is on Sunday June 28, 2026. It includes the following events: Adult Registration, First Responders & Military Registration, Teen Registration 13 to 17 yrs, and Child Registration 12 & Under.
