What does a day in the life of land monitoring look like? 🌿🚗

Hiking protected properties, documenting changes, finding perfect lunch spots, and spotting wildlife along the way 🐢. Every monitoring trip reminds us why protecting these places matters. 💚

*When encountering wildlife in the field, observe from a respectful distance unless you are professionally trained.

Also a huge thank you to our amazing Wildways hosts - Amy Pendergast, Michelle Maupin-Cornelius, Kathleen Gilman and Kathleen Gulledge. These hosts went above and beyond to provide a beautiful lunch spread as well as provide dessert! 🍪

It’s been a busy (and beautiful) Earth Month here at Shasta Land Trust 🌎💚

We kicked things off with a stunning wildflower & vernal pool walk, our staff and board tabled at the Earth Day Festival, and wrapped it all up with an incredible trail clean-up in partnership with Knauf and some amazing volunteers — hauling out a huge load of trash along the way! 🙌

This month is such a powerful reminder to care for and steward the earth in every way we can, big or small.

How did you spend your Earth Month? 🌱 Drop us a comment below or send us a photo - we’d love to see!

🐑Wildlife Wednesday🐑

Have you ever wondered how sheep help keep our landscapes healthy?

We often think of sheep for the products they provide, like wool and dairy—but they’re incredible animals on their own. Did you know that they can recognize up to 50 other sheep faces and even remember human faces for years? They’re way smarter than people think!

Beyond that, sheep act as your eco-friendly landscapers. They can help in reducing wildfire fuel and controlling invasive weeds. Well-managed sheep grazing can even improve soil health and encourage native plant growth!

Sheep ranches engage in the farm-to-fiber process, building a hands-on connection with their animals. If you’d like to see how freshly shorn wool is transformed into fiber, join us at our Farm to Fleece event on Friday, April 24th, from 10am-1pm.

Tickets for the event are $40 and can be purchased on our website at shastalandtrust.org or through the link in our bio.

Want to support local sheep ranches? Shop at farmers markets or join a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that includes sheep products.
