Youth Options Shasta

Youth Options Shasta According to the Redding Police Department, Redding had 20 violent youth gang-related felonies in 1994.

At Youth Options Shasta, we empower youth through mentoring, leadership, peer-led Restorative Justice, and prevention—helping them make positive choices, repair harm, and strengthen community. The Youth Violence Prevention Council received its 501(c) 3 status in 1996, after the problem of gang and youth violence found its way to Redding in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. This prompted a county-w

ide effort to rid our communities of youth gangs. Lead by aggressive law enforcement, cooperation from the schools and community-based organizations and agencies, Redding and Shasta County were able to gain the upper hand. The focus of the Youth Violence Prevention Council involves the coordination of primary education on youth issues and youth advocacy, all aimed at keeping our county youth gang free and safe for all citizens, young and older alike. Today, due to the decrease in gangs in Shasta County, the Youth Violence Prevention Council has been able to focus and provide multiple services to youth and families in other areas of need. The programs offered through the Youth Violence Prevention Council include:

Youth/Peer Court
PlusONE
Youth Fire-Setter Prevention & Intervention
Shasta Youth Leadership Camp
Triple P – Parent Discussion Group
Graffiti Eradication Hotline and support
Fresh Start for Youth Endowment
Safe School Planning
Public awareness and public education on youth issues
Advocacy for youth issues on the local, state, and national level
Along with our programs, we have been able to raise funds for YVPC through the Shasta Mud Run fundraiser, which helps promote a safe and healthy community, encourages teamwork and cooperation, and provides a family friendly event for all ages. 💙 Celebrating Leadership, Service, & Community 💙

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual Peer Court Volunteer Celebration! It was an incredible evening honoring the youth, families, volunteers, judges, and community partners who make our restorative justice programs possible.

We were grateful to have representatives from the cities of Redding, Anderson, and Shasta Lake, along with our board members and community supporters, join us in recognizing the impact these young leaders continue to make across Shasta County.

✨ During the evening, we proudly recognized:
Our graduating Youth Action Council members: Abby Wilmot, Maddilyn Conkey, and William Li. We also celebrated our incredible volunteers, who each received special recognition awards for their dedication and leadership. Their guests were gifted certificates for a free kids meal from Raising Cane’s and free passes to the Redding Aquatic Center—thank you to our community partners for helping us celebrate these amazing youth!

A special and heartfelt recognition was given to our Program Manager, Skyler Robinson, for five years of outstanding leadership, mentorship, and commitment to empowering youth in our community. His impact has been truly meaningful, and we are deeply grateful for all he has done 💙

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Youth Options Shasta and believe in the power of youth leadership, restorative practices, and second chances.

This is an important reminder, especially when we consider how heavily youth are targeted by these marketing tactics. Ni****ne addiction can take hold quickly in developing brains, impacting learning, mental health, and long-term well-being.

Protecting young people from these influences is critical, and continued education and prevention efforts are key to helping them make informed, healthy choices.

The deadliest industry is trying to rebrand itself as your friend, marketing themselves as the solution to the very problem they created – the smoking epidemic. Learn the truth and how to fight back to protect yourself and those around you.

🍓 What a berry sweet weekend! 🍓

Youth Options Shasta had a wonderful time tabling at the 85th Annual Happy Valley Strawberry Festival, connecting with youth, families, community partners, and neighbors from across Shasta County.

Community events like this remind us how important it is to come together, build relationships, and celebrate the people and organizations that make our region such a special place to live. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to learn more about YOS programs and services.

A special thank you to the organizers, volunteers, vendors, and community members who help make this longtime tradition possible year after year. The festival featured local vendors, entertainment, family activities, and of course plenty of delicious strawberry shortcake! 🍓💙

We are grateful to be part of a community that continues to invest in youth, families, and opportunities for connection.
