CASA of Butte, Glenn, Shasta, & Tehama Counties NVCSS CASA is a program of providing trained volunteer advocates for youth in the Child Welfare System.

We proudly serve Butte, Glenn, Shasta, & Tehama Counties, ensuring every child has a caring voice and someone in their corner. Northern Valley Catholic Social Service’s CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) program recruits and trains dedicated community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care. CASA volunteers serve as the “voice for every foster child,” offering

consistent support, gathering information, and making recommendations in the child’s best interests—from courtrooms to classrooms. Our volunteers work with legal, educational, and social services to ensure that each child’s unique needs are understood and addressed. Serving youth across Butte, Glenn, Shasta, and Tehama counties, CASA provides meaningful opportunities to make a direct impact in a child’s life. You become a CASA to make a difference in a child’s life. You may be surprised by the difference they make in yours. 💙

CASA is about being the person who keeps showing up through the changes, challenges, and important moments in a young person’s life. But those relationships can leave just as meaningful an impact on the advocates who serve. CASA volunteer Heather Wilhite beautifully shares what that experience has meant to her:

“Being a CASA has enriched my life every bit as much as I hope I’ve enriched the lives of the youth I serve. I’ve learned that sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer a young person is simply to be the one steady adult who shows up, believes in them, and reminds them of their potential until they can see it for themselves. Watching a young person begin to believe in their own future is an incredible privilege.”

💙 $5,000 for CASA!

For years, the Chico Noon Exchange Club has been a generous supporter of CASA of Butte, Glenn, Shasta & Tehama Counties and the children we serve throughout our region.

During a recent club meeting, our team had the opportunity to share more about CASA’s work, the children we serve, and the important role CASA volunteers play in their lives. Club President Debra Humes also presented CASA with a generous $5,000 donation from Brewfest proceeds.

These funds will help CASA continue providing advocacy and a consistent, caring adult for children in foster care.

"When I became a CASA, I thought I would be the one changing a child's life. Instead, she changed mine."

Jessaca became a CASA to give back, but she found so much more than she expected. Paired with a youth from her own Tribe, she was able to help her youth reconnect to her culture, identity, and heritage. One of her favorite memories was gifting her a handcrafted Native American necklace and seeing her proudly wear it.
