🚨 REMINDER: Please Report Accidents and Disabled Vehicles 🚨

If you are involved in any type of accident, please contact the Sheriff’s Office right away when:
✔️ There is damage to any vehicle involved✔️ There is damage to any property✔️ Your vehicle will need to be left on the side of the road

Failure to immediately report accidents is also a class 2 misdemeanor in the state of South Dakota.

Notifying us helps prevent unnecessary towing expenses and avoids the need for deputies to spend time trying to locate the vehicle’s owner.

When we find a vehicle abandoned on the roadside—especially one that appears to have been involved in an accident or damaged in some way—it is our responsibility to investigate what occurred and ensure everyone involved is safe. This often means deputies must spend time tracking down the registered owner to confirm there are no injuries or other concerns.
A quick phone call can save everyone time and help us focus our resources where they are needed most.

If you’re ever unsure whether you should report something, give us a call. We’d much rather know about it and determine that everything is okay than spend valuable time wondering what happened and searching for answers later.

Thank you for helping us keep our roads safe!

⚠️ SCAM ALERT – Fraudulent “Apple Security” Text Messages ⚠️

The Spink County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of fraudulent text messages claiming to be from Apple Security, Apple Account Services, or Apple Wallet regarding suspicious account activity.

Please see the attached photos for reference. These messages are scams and are designed to create a sense of urgency in an attempt to obtain personal information, financial information, passwords, or access to your devices.

In the reported messages, recipients are informed of a pending Apple Wallet transaction, suspicious login attempts, or alleged account compromises. The messages often include a case number, transaction details, and a phone number to call for assistance.

🚩 Common Red Flags

• Unexpected messages claiming your account has been compromised
• Notifications of purchases you do not recognize
• Requests to call a phone number provided in the message
• Pressure to act immediately to avoid charges or account suspension
• Messages originating from unfamiliar or international phone numbers

✅ What You Should Do

• Do not call the phone number listed in the message
• Do not click any links or respond to the sender
• Do not provide passwords, verification codes, banking information, or personal information
• Delete the message and report it as spam/junk through your mobile carrier or device
• If you are concerned about your Apple account, contact Apple directly through official channels or your device settings

📱 Remember

Legitimate companies will not ask you to provide passwords, security codes, or sensitive financial information through unsolicited text messages.

If you believe you have fallen victim to a scam, contact your financial institution immediately and report the incident to local law enforcement.

Please help protect others by sharing this post with friends and family.

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, the Spink County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone to celebrate safely while taking time to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Whether you’re traveling, spending time at the lake, grilling with family, or attending community events, please:
• Buckle up
• Don’t drink and drive
• Slow down and stay alert
• Watch for motorcycles, ATVs, and pedestrians

Most importantly, take a moment this weekend to honor those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy today.
