The historic Runoff Election is behind us and for that we are thankful! We are also extremely thankful for our 27 precinct workers who received a call a few days after a 13-14 hour day at the polls, are you willing to do it all over again in 6 weeks? We had 26 say yes, and one with a conflict! We can’t forget about our 3 absentee precinct workers, they are the most flexible bunch agreeing to work not knowing how long it will exactly entail. We also have 2 resolution board members, who at times probably feel like they have form after form to review and sign, and then wait we still find more! Then there are our fellow coworkers who agree to be there at 5:30 AM to help setup and then tear down so the election can happen during Achievement Days, many thanks to Lisa Otto and Jeff Haessig. Last but definitely not least are my two deputies, the details ladies, the amount of time and diligence they put into the preparation of every election is something I think I sometimes take for granted. To run a smooth election is a collaborative effort and I am thankful we have that in Spink County!

Attention voters in Precincts 4, 9, & 10, which includes Redfield City, and the townships of: Groveland, Exline, Redfield, Three Rivers, Great Bend and Lodi. Voting for the Runoff Election on 7/28/26 will be at the Spink County 4-H building located at the Spink County Fairgrounds. 4-H Achievement Days will also be happening at the fairgrounds that day, but activities will be on the north end of the fairgrounds. We would like to thank the Spink County 4-H staff and families for their cooperation, adaptation of their schedule and the extra work fitting the election into a busy Achievement Days caused. Spink County 4-H will be running a concessions if you would like to support them before or after voting.

NOTICE OF DEADLINE FOR VOTER REGISTRATION
Voter registration for the Runoff Election to be held on July 28, 2026, will close on July 13, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Failure to register by this date will cause forfeiture of voting rights for this election. If you are in doubt about whether you are registered, check the Voter Information Portal at www.sdsos.gov or call the county auditor at (605-472-4580).

Registration may be completed during regular business hours at the county auditor's office, municipal finance office, secretary of state’s office and those locations which provide driver's licenses, SNAP, TANF, WIC, military recruitment, and assistance to the disabled as provided by the Department of Human Services. You may contact the county auditor to request a mail-in registration form or access a mail-in form at www.sdsos.gov.

Any voter who needs assistance, pursuant to the American with Disabilities Act, may contact the county auditor for information and special assistance in voter registration.

Today is Election Day! Voting is happening from 7 AM to 7 PM. Note Precinct 7 in Mellette now votes at the the Mellette Community Center and Precincts 4, 9 and 10 in Redfield vote at the Spink County Fairgrounds. All other precincts remain the same. A Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, in all the voting precincts in Spink County.

The election polls will be open from seven a.m. to seven p.m. central daylight savings time on the day of the election.

The Spink County Auditor's Office will not be processing any driver licenses from May 8, 2026 through June 16, 2026, due to staffing and to complete our statutory duties. We are taking appointments for June 17, 2026 but ask if you do not expire before July 1st or have not received a letter from the South Department of Public Safety that you need to update your CDL prior to July 1st that you please take an appointment in July, so we are able to process those that need an updated license prior to July 1st. County issue driver licensing is offered as a courtesy to our constituents, we apologize that we are unable to provide the service for a short period and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Spink County has received the official ballots for the 2026 Primary Election. Absentee voting is now available in the Auditor's Office, an acceptable photo ID is required to vote. Sample ballots are also available in the office or can be found at https://vip.sdsos.gov/VIPLogin.aspx. The voter registration deadline for the June 2, 2026 Primary Election is May 18, 2026 at 5 P.M.
