SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE

...VERY HIGH FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON...A combination of warm temperatures, gusty winds, and a relatively dry air mass will produce elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon across much of central and northern Iowa. Southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gust 35 to 45 mph are expected along with dry fuels and relatively humidity values dropping to between 40 and 45 percent this afternoon over much of the area. Any fires that do develop could quickly spread in these conditions, so avoid outdoor burning and report any wildfires to local authorities. Outdoor enthusiasts should use caution with off-road vehicles or equipment that can create a spark and lead to fire ignition. Please don’t burn today thanks.

Last night the fire department was pressure testing fire hydrants. We were contacted by our city maintenance guys that people were having water pressure issues and cloudy water. We apologize that we neglected to communicate with the city, and apologize to those in the community who experienced any issues. As always thank you for your continued support!

Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s by this afternoon on gusty south winds. The combination of this heat and high dewpoints are forecast to push heat index values from 100 to 105 degrees this afternoon. Some relief is expected in the north later tonight with showers and storms possible overnight. Additional heat is expected on Sunday, mainly across the southern half of the state. If planning outdoor activities, avoid prolonged exposure to the heat and please take appropriate precautions. Watch for the latest forecast updates at weather.gov/desmoines

Good Evening Redfield!

In an effort to spread some cheer and keep everyone smiling during this time, the Redfield Fire Department will be cruising through town this Sunday, April 5th at 2pm. We hope to have a special guest riding along for the kids!
We are making every effort to cover as many streets as possible, so please be patient. We would love to see you waving (from the safety of your own car/porch/etc.), but also want you to be sure to maintain a safe, physical and social distance from others!
The map below shows the highlighted streets we will be on. We will begin at the fire station and head north up 1st, come south down Grant, loop around the edge of town, hit the east/west streets, then follow up what was missed on the north/south streets. We realize we won't be able to drive by every single house in the community, but are doing our best!
Step outside and enjoy the beautiful weather (safely) and wave and cheer with us! We will be running lights and sirens too!

Mental Health Awareness month is coming. We have many of the central iowa departments allowing staff to wear these shirts for their duty shirts in May. We are selling to anyone who wants to buy so we can raise funds for a couple non-profits that support firefighter mental health. https://cifd.iworkandplay.com/cifd/shop/home

The doors are down, all is quiet but we do stand ready. On Wednesday, March 25, at 7:00 pm ALL IOWA FIRE DEPARTMENTS are encouraged to open their doors and turn on the lights on their trucks as a sign of strength and hope for all. Hope for all who work daily in EMS, Fire and Law enforcement to be ready, strength for those working around the clock to provide care, those who strive to find the right medicine to help, those in the food/grocery industry to feed us and those trucking daily to keep us going.

You can do your part at home, too! Turn your porch light on...💡Let us all know you’re fine and have hope. We ask all with red, blue, white or your department colors...Light ‘em up and turn them on. Maybe just maybe, we’ll create five minutes of smiles and peace.

Please share and let's see if we can go Nationwide. We will be live at 7:00 PM TONIGHT!! 🚨🚨🚨

Wildland fire risk is Very High at this time. Please exercise caution when considering a controlled burn. Strong winds and deceivingly dry vegetation can create an out of control condition very quickly.

For all firefighters out there, every Tesla in the front trunk has a red cable tagged with a firefighter helmet, cutting this cable disconnects all the high voltage lines in the vehicle, and renders it motionless. I asked about the solar roof too, and it’s expected a similar disconnect will be implemented that in some way reduced risk of electrocution, a rep is getting back to me. Always good to see companies backing first responders, every electric vehicle should have this!

Is there a particular reason why the emergency siren was going off around 3pm today (Wednesday, September 23, 2020)?? (I couldn't find any weather-related notices from National Weather service, etc.)
