SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
...VERY HIGH FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON...A combination of warm temperatures, gusty winds, and a relatively dry air mass will produce elevated fire weather conditions this afternoon across much of central and northern Iowa. Southerly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gust 35 to 45 mph are expected along with dry fuels and relatively humidity values dropping to between 40 and 45 percent this afternoon over much of the area. Any fires that do develop could quickly spread in these conditions, so avoid outdoor burning and report any wildfires to local authorities. Outdoor enthusiasts should use caution with off-road vehicles or equipment that can create a spark and lead to fire ignition. Please don’t burn today thanks.
