The 11.25 square mile community is located in Wayne County bordering the Communities of Detroit, Southfield, Livonia, and Dearborn Heights. The Redford Township Police Department employs 54 sworn Police Officers, 3 Civilian Dispatch/Jailers, and 6 Civilian Support Staff members (full /

On Thursday at approximately 8:20 P.M. RTPD officers responded to Grand River/Dalby on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a truck.

Preliminary information is a 36 year old male was driving westbound Grand River on his motorcycle accompanied by a 39 you female; neither were wearing helmets. The motorcycle was approaching Dalby st. The truck was driven by a 28 year old male and he was driving westbound on Grand River passing Dalby. The motorcycle was behind the truck, and rear ended the truck causing the crash. The two individuals on the motorcycle suffered critical injuries and were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the truck had minor injuries and was transported to the same hospital. All parties are cooperating with the investigation.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. High rate of speed was a factor. It is unknown if alcohol/drugs were a factor.

A message from Chief Mansfield:

With over 170 calls for service from 7am on Friday through 7am today, it has been a busy weekend for your RTPD police officers. These calls ranged from something as benign as parking complaints and retail fraud reports but also included incidents involving violence and loss. Below are just a few of the incidents your officers responded to:

• House fire of an Adult Foster Care home that has resulted in 3 deaths; later responded to a different location for a kitchen fire
• Ten Domestic Assault incidents including 4 arrests. One of these calls was for a stabbing that resulted in an arrest of the suspect who fought with officers and was charged with Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, and multiple other crimes
• A su***de of a young woman with a firearm
• An Attempted Stolen Vehicle that turned into a foot pursuit with a suspect being taken into custody, injuring two of our officers
• One suspect threatening to shoot up a location who was arrested for Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Felony Firearm
• Four additional calls for people suffering from mental health crisis
• Over 20 vehicle crash reports including 1 roll over and 3 with injuries

I know there are times when you may have an interaction with an officer and they appear tired, cranky, or distracted. Sometimes they have just left a call where they attempted CPR on someone they knew was already gone, had to fight to protect themselves or take a suspect into custody, or see more death than a person should see. Yes, the men and women of the Redford Township Police Department (including our dispatchers and civilians) signed up to serve and protect our community, but they are also normal people who have emotions and families to go home to. Our social worker is checking in with them and we have other resources available should our officers need them. They will have a couple well-earned days off and then be back in the saddle, patrol car, working to keep Redford Township safe.

If you see our guys and gals out and about, give them a smile, a wave, or even a quick thank you.

On Saturday at approximately 9:20 P.M. RTPD officers responded to Inkster/Clarita on a report of a crash involving a vehicle and an E Bike which the E Bike had two juveniles riding on it.

Once Officers responded on scene, they observed bystanders holding a 13-yr B/M juvenile on the ground. The juvenile had a broken right arm and possible serious head injury. Officers took over medical care by stabilizing the juvenile’s head. RTFD arrived on scene and took over care. Officers checked on 15 yr old B/F juvenile who was being cared for by RTFD as well. Both juveniles were transported to Hospitals for injuries sustained from the crash.

Preliminary information leads to the E Bike traveling on SB Inkster on the sidewalk on the west side approaching Clarita. The E Bike starts to cross the street going west to east at Clarita before reaching the east side of Inkster the E Bike was struck by a Black Dodge Journey who was traveling NB on Inkster.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the E Bike that had the two juveniles riding it remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. Alcohol and speed are not a factor.

On Saturday, August 1, 2026, the Redford Township Police Department responded to the area of Glendale and Woodbine on shots fired. Officers arrived on scene and discovered a 63-year-old male, later identified as Ricky Hammoud, in the driver’s seat of a Ford Mach E with apparent gun shot wounds. Officers attempted life-saving measures until the arrival of the Redford Township Fire Department, who took over care and transported Mr. Hammoud to Corewell-Farmington Hills, where he was declared deceased.


Over the next 5 days, detectives worked around the clock interviewing potential witnesses and following leads generated from video, data collection, and physical evidence. Although the investigation still continues, it has been determined that this crime stems from carjacking. This was a targeted incident where Mr. Hammoud was lured to the location and the armed suspects attempted to forcibly take his vehicle. Two suspects have been taken into custody in conjunction with this homicide, 19-year-old Airron Lee Matthews, and a 17-year-old male juvenile, both from Redford Township.

While not believed to be the primary suspect in this crime, Matthews was arraigned Friday in 17th District Court by Judge Haroutunian and charged with Homicide-Felony Murder and Carjacking with a bond of $500,000 / 10% and a GPS Tether. The 17-year-old is being held at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center awaiting a determination if he will be charged as an adult or a juvenile.
