Almost that time of the month for FUN! If your child is 10-14 years old and is interested in Law Enforcement, consider joining the Redford Township Junior Police! Meetings are held the last Tuesday of each month!
We will be meeting Tuesday October 27th at 5:30 pm. There is no preregistration required, just come on down! We ask that a responsible parent/guardian/sibling attend to help with your child(ren).

On 10/17/26 just after midnight, Officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Garfield St. in Redford on a Felonious Assault involving a male and a female in a domestic relationship. On scene, officers located an adult female victim with multiple gunshot wounds and a male juvenile with a possible grazing gunshot wound. Both victims were transported by Redford Fire Department to an area hospital. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s white Land Rover.

This investigation remains active and police are working to get the suspect in custody. There is no reason to believe that the suspect is a danger to the public at this time.

Congratulations to Captain Emily Fitzsimmons and Lieutenant Tom Ditzhazy on their graduation from Eastern Michigan University School of Police Staff and Command Executive Leadership Program last night!

After 9 months of in person seminars, lectures, site visits, and networking, Captain Fitzsimmons and Lieutenant Ditzhazy gave presentations on their research papers, as well as participated in public speaking, conflict resolution, and coaching scenarios. This program provides 12 credit hours of Master Degree level courses and is not an accomplishment to be brushed off as just another certification.

The Redford Township Police Department is committed to providing our command officers with the skills and training to lead the men and women of RTPD. Capt. Fitzsimmons and Lt. Ditzhazy join other Staff & Command graduates at RTPD including Lt. Dudek, Lt. Ricci, Capt. Dietrich, Capt. Burris, and Chief Mansfield.

On Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 8:20pm, Redford Township Police Officers were dispatched to an occupied vehicle stopped blocking the roadway on Beech Daly south of Schoolcraft. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the driver to determine why he was blocking the roadway. The driver was a male armed with a handgun who failed to comply with the officers’ orders. The male threatened the officers with the handgun creating an officer involved shooting. Officers immediately rendered medical aid and the male was transported to a local hospital by paramedics where he is being treated and is in stable condition.

The Michigan State Police are investigating the shooting. Consistent with department policy and best practice the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Michigan State Police investigation.

On Thursday, October 8, 2026, at approximately 4:05 p.m., Redford Township police officers were dispatched to Beech Daly, just south of Plymouth, for a reported serious injury crash involving two juveniles and a pickup truck.

A preliminary investigation determined that the two juveniles were on foot and crossing Beech Daly westbound outside of a designated crosswalk when they were struck by a southbound pickup truck. Both juveniles were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. One juvenile sustained serious injuries and was reported to be in critical condition.

At this time, speed and alcohol or other forms of impairment do not appear to have been contributing factors in the crash.
The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
