Tonight is the night! The Redford Township Summer Festival Fireworks are this evening at Bell Creek Park (5 Mile / Inkster).

As a reminder, the Inkster Road (Lyndon to Puritan), 5 Mile Road (Delaware to Inkster), and many of the residential streets nearby will begin closing between 6pm and 630pm. The roads will remain closed until after ALL of the festival traffic has safely left the area. This will likely not be until after 11pm.

Those coming to the fireworks are encouraged to use one of the many shuttles that will begin at 6pm from the Town Hall parking lot and drop off at Bell Creek. These shuttles will return everyone throughout the evening. Many residential streets near Bell Creek are closed and parking there is discouraged for safety purposes as the streets are packed and allow for one direction traffic only.

The pedestrian bridge at 5 Mile and Meadowbrook is open. Please follow the posted signs around the fencing that surround the construction area. There is a clear and safe pathway off of Meadowbrook to the pedestrian bridge that will lead to Bell Creek Park.

Fireworks go off at dusk! That will be approximately 10pm. Come on out and enjoy the bands, beverages, carnival rides, and fun!

On Thursday, 6/11/26, Redford Officers were dispatched to the Redford Plaza at Telegraph and W Chicago for 3 small children being found in a vehicle at approximately 5 pm with no parents around. A bystander observed the children in a vehicle that was not running with windows partially open and called 911. Officers located 2 mothers to the children within the plaza. Both mothers were placed under arrest for Child Neglect. The children were transported to Garden City hospital for treatment of heat exposure and were quickly stabilized. All three children made a quick recovery and were discharged and released to family. CPS is involved in this case.

Leaving young children in a vehicle unsupervised is never safe. Children are at risk of being kidnapped or wandering off. In this heat, the interior of a vehicle can reach life threatening temperatures in minutes, even with the windows cracked.

Never leave children or pets in an unsupervised vehicle. Leaving the air-conditioning on is only acceptable if there is an active monitoring system to notify you if the air-conditioning fails AND you are available to return to that vehicle within moments.

Emergency sirens have activated due to a Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Wayne County through 3pm. Please use caution and move to a safe location in your home.

The Tornado Warning has been canceled. A Heat Advisory continues through 8pm tonight.

On Sunday at approximately 11:00 P.M. RTPD officers responded to Telegraph/5 Mile on a report of a crash involving a vehicle that was driving the wrong way.

Preliminary information is that a 40-year-old male was driving the wrong way on Telegraph in a burgundy Durango. The vehicle was driving NB in the SB lanes. The burgundy Durango struck two vehicles just north of 5 mile on Telegraph. The burgundy Durango continued at a high rate of speed and struck another vehicle head on at the stop light north of 5 Mile at the turnaround. The head on collision’s impact caused other vehicles stopped at the stoplight to be struck also. There were a total of 8 vehicles involved in this crash. The driver of the burgundy Durango was transported to Corewell Farmington Hills Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. All other individuals that were involved in the crash had minor or no injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. High rate of speed as well as driving the wrong way were factors in the crash.

In the early morning hours of June 2nd, 2026, Redford Township residents in the area between Inkster to Beech Daly and 5 Mile to 6 Mile experienced a string of thefts from their vehicles. RTPD officers proactively patrolling the area were able to locate and arrest one of the two subjects connected to the thefts. There were several police reports made by residents, but the investigation has indicated there may be several more victims who have not made reports.

If you found your vehicle rummaged through or anything taken from it, you are encouraged to file a report at the front desk of RTPD. An array of items were taken during the larcenies and we would like to return the property to its rightful owners.

If you have any security camera footage of masked subjects on 6/2/2026 between the hours of midnight and 6am looking into or going into vehicles or information that could assist the investigation, please contact Detective Short at 313-587-4866 or [email protected].
