Recently, the Redlands Police Department proudly recognized several newly promoted personnel and welcomed our newest team members.

Congratulations to our newly promoted Sergeants Nicholas Koahou and Garrett Caddel.

We also welcome to our team Officer Biggers, Officer Stuart, Officer Guillen and Officer Vallejo.

Along with Dispatcher Munoz, Records Specialist Angelica and Records Specialist Emily.

These achievements reflect a commitment to service, professionalism, and continued growth. We congratulate those who have earned promotions through their hard work and dedication, and we extend a warm welcome to our newest members as they begin their careers with our department.

Redlands Police Department Weekly Update (June 11-18)

A woman was robbed as she left the downtown parking structure at 5th Street and Citrus Avenue early Tuesday morning, June 16. The woman was in her vehicle when a man reached in through the driver’s side window and grabbed several gold chains, valued at nearly $5,000, from her neck. The incident is under investigation.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Carlson Avenue shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday, June 16. Witnesses reported an argument between a man and his adult son escalated and the man fired a gunshot at the victim. No injuries were reported. Both parties left the scene before officers arrived. After serving a search warrant, evidence of a shooting was recovered. Police were able to contact the intended victim but he refused to cooperate with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle fire at San Timoteo Canyon Road and Alessandro Road shortly after 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16. Officers located a 2025 Honda Accord fully engulfed in flames. No occupants were located in or around the vehicle, which was registered to an owner in Jurupa Valley. Redlands Fire Department responded and investigators believe the fire was unintentional and was caused by a mechanical problem.

Police responded to a stabbing at Sylvan Park Monday night, June 15. Arriving officers located one victim with a superficial stab wound and another victim with a significant laceration to his head. Witnesses reported that a large group was fighting in the park when one man pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim then ran east across University Street chased by several people who then assaulted him, including hitting him in the head with a skateboard. Officers found the man unconscious and bleeding from the head. Redlands Fire Department paramedics responded and both victims were transported to the hospital.

Two juveniles and two adults were arrested following a disturbance involving hundreds of juveniles at the Citrus Plaza and Mountain Grove shopping centers Sunday afternoon, June 14.

A driver was arrested for DUI after crashing her car into a parked vehicle in the 600 block of East Lugonia Avenue early Sunday morning, June 14. A passenger in her vehicle was transported to the hospital with injuries.

Police responded to Mountain Grove shopping center for a report of between 60 and 75 juveniles fighting Friday evening, June 12. Officers located one victim who was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The victim and his mother declined prosecution.

Two juvenile girls were arrested after they reportedly assaulted a 17-year-old girl inside the Target store in Citrus Plaza Friday afternoon, June 12. The victim was inside the store when one of the girls pepper-sprayed her then kicked her in the head while she was on the ground. The second suspect joined in the assault. The victim was transported to the hospital with injuries.

Police responded to an apartment complex after reports of a man with a gun in the parking lot making suicidal statements Friday afternoon, June 12. Officers arrived on scene and deployed a Bearcat tactical vehicle and began negotiating with the man who then complied and put the weapon down. Officers took the weapon and additional ammunition for safekeeping. The man was taken into custody for a psychological evaluation.

Police are investigating a series of stolen and attempted stolen vehicles late last week. Several vehicles, including Kias, Hyundais and one Honda were found with door locks popped and steering columns and ignitions damaged in the 1200 block of San Pablo, the 0 block of Tennessee Street, 100 block of Norwood, 700 block of West Olive Avenue, 1400 block of Barton Road, 300 block of New York Street, 600 block of Kansas Street and 200 block of Carrie Lane.

On the morning of Wednesday, June 17, an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) alert notified officers of a stolen vehicle traveling through the City of Redlands. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody without incident and booked into county jail.

Later, officers responded to a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle near Ashford Drive and Silverleaf Court. When officers attempted to contact the occupants, the vehicle fled, leading to a pursuit through the city. During the incident, officers learned the vehicle had been reported stolen in a separate auto theft case. The pursuit was terminated after the vehicle entered the westbound 210 Freeway and officers lost sight of it. The investigation remains ongoing.

On the afternoon of June 17, two vehicles collided at the intersection of Texas Street and West Lugonia Avenue, leaving one driver trapped inside a vehicle. Traffic in the area was temporarily impacted while Redlands Fire Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department members extricated the driver. All occupants of both vehicles were transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Also that afternoon, a vehicle struck a juvenile pedestrian in a crosswalk at Lugonia Avenue and Orange Street, causing minor injuries. The driver fled the scene. The incident remains under investigation.

On the evening of June 17, officers arrested a 17-year-old male for vehicle theft after responding to reports of several juveniles attempting to steal vehicles at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Barton Road. Officers located a recently stolen Kia Optima leaving the complex and conducted a traffic stop. After confirming the vehicle had been stolen, officers arrested the driver and booked him into juvenile hall. The investigation remains ongoing.

Redlands Police Holding DUI Checkpoint Friday

The Redlands Police Department will conduct a driving under the influence (DUI) Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, June 19, at an undisclosed location.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” said Sgt. Jeffrey Frisch, who supervises the Redlands Police Department’s Traffic Division. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”

The Redlands Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
