Water is flowing through Central Oregon canals, but a record low snowpack could mean shortages by July. Farmers and water managers are already preparing for cutbacks.

This is a great opportunity for Central Oregon irrigation water users.

The Central Oregon Canal and the Pilot Butte Canal were opened yesterday, 4/6/26. It takes a couple of days for the water at the headworks on the Deschutes River in Bend to get to the end of our systems in Terrebonne and Powell Butte. Once water reaches the end of the main canals the levels can then increase in the canals and begin to feed the smaller lateral canals that deliver to our patrons. 💧 Winter Stock Water Update – Central Oregon Irrigation District

Central Oregon Canal
(Serving east Bend, Alfalfa & Powell Butte)

Provided flows in the Deschutes River hold steady, we are planning a winter stock-water run March 2–5, 2026 for patrons in the Alfalfa and Powell Butte areas.

Stock water runs are for the sole purpose of filling ponds for livestock.

If you are on the Central Oregon Canal system and would like to request stock water, please contact the office.

Pilot Butte Canal
(Serving north Bend, Redmond & Terrebonne)

⚠️ Due to ongoing construction projects, there are no winter stock runs planned for the Pilot Butte Canal at this time.
📌 Please Note:
Dates are tentative and may be rescheduled or canceled due to inclement weather, low flows in the Deschutes River, construction activity, or other unforeseen events.

For updates or changes, please visit the "Important Information" page at www.coid.org
