A Message from the Fire Chief
As Fire Chief of the Redway Fire Protection District, I want to take a moment to thank our community for its continued support and provide an update on what we’ve been working on.
While many people see us responding to emergencies, much of our work happens behind the scenes. Every day, we are focused on improving firefighter safety, strengthening emergency response, planning for the future, and making the best possible use of every taxpayer dollar.
Over the past year, we’ve continued operating our 24-hour Duty Officer Program, ensuring experienced leadership is available to respond quickly when emergencies happen. We’ve expanded firefighter training, hosted another successful Southern Humboldt Structure Fire Academy, maintained our apparatus and equipment, and continued supporting mutual aid throughout Humboldt County and across California.
Another one of our priorities is pursuing grant funding. Grants allow us to replace aging equipment, improve firefighter safety, and invest in our department without placing additional financial burden on our local taxpayers. Through the dedication of our volunteers and the support of our Board of Directors, Redway Fire has secured more than $30,500 in grant funding over the past year.
Our community BBQ is our one big fundraiser of the year and with the attendance so high this year and the many donations we received, we are able to continue this 54 year tradition which is so very close to our hearts.
Our long-term vision is clear. We will continue replacing aging emergency equipment before it becomes unreliable, improving firefighter safety, investing in training, and planning for the future needs of our district. As our community grows and emergency demands change, Redway Fire is committed to growing with it.
Everything we do is centered on one goal: providing the highest level of emergency service possible for the people of Southern Humboldt. Whether it’s responding to a medical emergency, protecting homes from wildfire, teaching fire prevention, or preparing for the next disaster, we remain committed to serving our community with professionalism, integrity, and pride.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteer firefighters, duty officers, administrative staff, Board of Directors, Humboldt County of Supervisors, neighboring fire agencies, community partners, and the citizens who continue to support us. We are grateful for the trust you place in us every day.
