Spent Memorial Day honoring, remembering, and celebrating together in Redwood City, Hillsborough, and South San Francisco.

Kudos to Piero and his Burlingame Coyotes lacrosse teammates for marching in the Hillsborough Memorial Day Parade. Lots of smiles.

As Memorial Day approaches, I had the distinct honor of joining Ruth Green and her family as Marine PFC Helmut Behlert was finally laid to rest Wednesday with full military honors at Golden Gate National Cemetery after being missing for more than 81 years. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

PFC Behlert gave his life during the Battle of Saipan in 1944 at just 27 years old. For decades, his family lived without answers until advances in DNA technology finally brought โ€œUncle Helmโ€ home. Watching 94-year-old Ruth Green gently welcome her uncle home and accept the American flag that draped his coffin was something I will never forget. โค๏ธ

From the Marines carrying his casket to the Patriot Guard Riders and law enforcement escorting him through our county, the day was a powerful reminder that we must never forget the sacrifices made by those who served our nation. PFC Behlert was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and numerous military honors for his bravery and sacrifice. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

As we observe the Memorial Day holiday this weekend, we honor not only Helmut Behlert but all the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice,m and dedication to freedom will never be forgotten.

May we always remember them, honor them and carry their legacy forward. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ™

It was an honor to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of the newly improved San Bruno Mountain Day Use Area today! ๐ŸŒ„โœ‚๏ธ

This $2 million investment is about creating a more welcoming, accessible, and educational experience for everyone who visits one of San Mateo Countyโ€™s true natural treasures. The project includes ADA-accessible picnic areas, BBQ grills, a brand-new restroom facility, scenic gathering spaces, and a new interpretive pavilion that will help visitors learn more about the mountainโ€™s unique environment, wildlife, and history. ๐Ÿž๏ธ๐ŸŒฟ

San Bruno Mountain is more than just a park, itโ€™s a place where memories are made. From family picnics and school hikes to breathtaking views of San Francisco and the Farallon Islands, this space has connected generations of residents to nature and to each other. I was proud to secure Measure K funding for this project after hearing directly from the community about the improvements they wanted to see. ๐Ÿ™Œ

Thank you to San Mateo County Parks, California State Parks, community leaders, educators, and everyone who helped make this vision a reality. Excited to see families, students, and visitors enjoy this incredible space for years to come! โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿฆ‹

And a special thanks to John F. Kennedy Elementary School Principal Danny Chiu and several students who helped cut the ribbon on this incredible project!
