It's World Bee Day! Bees are essential to pollinate plants, produce food, and support biodiversity. Everyone needs to understand the threats facing bees and how to protect them! Redwood City Public Library is lucky to have rooftop beehives RCPL Bees which produce local honey which the Friends of the Redwood City Public Library sells. The Redwood City Library Foundation gifts honey to anyone who becomes a recurring monthly donor or to donors who give gifts at $1,000 and above. We still have honey in stock! This week, volunteers joined Youth Services Librarian Pam Evans at the library to sort, bookmark, and box thousands of books for this year’s Summer Learning Challenge! 📚

From board books to graphic novels, local students will get to choose a free book of their own to take home and keep - helping prevent summer learning loss and build a love of reading.

Final push! We’re 75% of the way to funding the 2026 Summer Learning Challenge—and summer is almost here. 📚

“The Summer Learning Challenge is… an opportunity for the community to come together,” says Youth Services Librarian Pam Evans. Last year, we put 7,500 books into kids’ hands and created spaces for learning, creativity, and connection.

For many families, this program is essential—keeping kids engaged and growing all summer long. Help us reach our goal and make sure every child can participate.

What do these books have in common? They’re award-winning favorites—and three of the hundreds of books local kids can choose to keep this summer during the Summer Learning Challenge. 📚

We’ve reached over 50% of our $40,000 goal, but we still need your help to provide up to 7,500 books for children in Redwood City, Fair Oaks, and Redwood Shores.

Help put great books into kids’ hands this summer.

☀️ Summer is almost here — and so is the Summer Learning Challenge! 📚

Once again, the Redwood City Library Foundation is partnering with the Redwood City Public Library to make sure kids across Redwood City and Redwood Shores have books to read and reasons to keep learning all summer long. For many children, this program means receiving their very first books to call their own — and discovering that reading can be fun, empowering, and joyful.

Last year, when public funding disappeared, you showed up. Because of our community’s support, more than 6,000 children received free books and stayed engaged in reading all summer. You turned what could have been a season of learning loss into one of growth and possibility. 💛

This year, the need is even greater. Rising book costs mean we must raise $40,000 to provide up to 9,000 books — and we’re also committed to funding our Teen Intern Program, giving teens paid jobs helping run activities and serve as role models for younger readers.

Together, these programs keep kids learning, give teens real work experience, and strengthen our community.

📖✨ Join us as we launch this year’s Summer Learning Challenge campaign. Visit our website to see how your donation can help give every child a chance to build a lifelong love of reading.

Thank you for being part of this story — and for helping make this summer a season of opportunity for local kids and teens. https://www.rclfdn.org/copy-of-initiatives-1

The Redwood City Library Foundation is thrilled to announce that a generous donation was received from David Cowan of Bessemer Venture Partners to purchase 20 additional Wi-Fi Hotspots.

A library hotspot is a portable, pocket-sized Wi-Fi router that uses cellular data to create a personal Wi-Fi network, letting you connect laptops, tablets, and phones to the internet for free, bridging the digital divide for homework, job searching, and streaming at home or on the go, available with a library card. Wi-Fi hotspots are available for check-out for three weeks at a time as part of the Bridging the Digital Divide initiative, which provides a variety of digital technologies for library patrons.

The Cowan gift allowed the Library to expand the hotspot loan program to both the Redwood Shores and Schaberg Library branches! Redwood City Public Library now have 120 hotspots available for checkout!

Happy New Year! We hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a joyful, restful holiday season.

As we begin the year, we want to be transparent: like many nonprofits, we fell short of our December fundraising goal. With economic uncertainty and recent cuts to government funding, community support is more important than ever to keep our Library thriving as a place of learning, access, and connection for all.

Your support makes possible the Downtown Makerspace, the Summer Learning Challenge (with free books for kids), Brainfuse online tutoring, and our Bridging the Digital Divide program—providing hotspots, computers, and internet access to families in need.

Thank you for believing in the power of libraries. Together, we can make this a strong start to the new year. Donate today. https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=EGYFX7JS8PN9Q
