The Reed City Police Department is currently investigating a damage to property complaint that occurred in the 300 block of West Franklin Avenue on 08-10-2026 at 10:22 p.m.

We are asking residents that reside in that area to review any possible ring cam or surveillance video systems for anyone walking in the area around the above time frame.

Monday 7/13…

An officer was dispatched to an area check. The area was patrolled, but no one could be located matching the information received.

Tuesday 7/14…

An officer was dispatched to RCH for an unruly patient. Through investigation and interviews it was discovered to be miscommunication based on a language barrier by the parties involved. Those involved came to an understanding and it was determined that no criminal matter had occurred.

An officer investigated a complaint and gathered evidence regarding an attempted breaking and entering. This case is open pending further investigation.

An officer was called for a car-vs-mobility scooter accident. Medical assistance was refused and there is no known damage to either vehicle. The at fault party was issued a citation for fail to yield.

An officer was called to a well-being check. Through investigation it was determined that the individual was visiting family out of town.

Wednesday 7/15…

An officer was dispatched regarding multiple 911 hang-up calls. The caller was located and interviewed. Due to there being no emergency at the time the calls were placed, the individual was advised that if they continued to call unnecessarily, there would be criminal action taken for 911 misuse.

An officer took a complaint regarding a dumpster emitting a very foul odor. The homeowner was contacted, advised of the nuisance violation, and given a date to correct the violation.

Officers conducted proactive patrols, traffic enforcement, security checks and follow-up on open investigations.

Friday 7/17…

An officer was dispatched for an odor at a residence. Upon gaining entry, the resident was located deceased. The investigation was completed and this death is believed to be caused by natural causes.

An officer was called to investigate a trespass complaint. The complainant was advised to notify RCPD when the subject was present, and they would be served.

An officer investigated a complaint of a PPO violation and documented evidence. This case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

An officer confirmed an active warrant for a subject currently incarcerated at another county. RCPD will be advised when the person is available for arrest and transport to this county.

Saturday 7/18…

Officers made multiple traffic stops, issued citations, patrolled areas for security, followed up on several open cases, and abatement statuses.

Monday 7/6…

An officer was called for a damage report regarding the use of fireworks. Statements and investigation were completed, and a suspect identified. A verbal agreement was made between the 2 parties, as the complainant stated they would allow the person to make the needed repairs.

Officers were dispatched for a domestic assault in progress. Statements, interviews, and evidence were gathered. A 35year-old male was arrested for domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call. He was transported to OC jail without incident. Officers provided the victim with crime victim’s rights information. CPS was also contacted.

An officer assisted the Newaygo County Sheriff Department with an investigation and interviews on an incident in their jurisdiction. Information was documented from statements and turned over to Newaygo County Sheriff department. CPS was contacted.

Tuesday 7/7…

Officers issued traffic citations, performed patrols, security checks, and follow-up on active cases.

Wednesday 7/8…

An officer was flagged down while on patrol for a civil dispute. The dispute was only verbal, and after conversation, the complainant agreed to drive the person to their home.

An officer located several juveniles at a local business after allowed hours, which is a violation of the curfew ordinance. 2 of the individuals were picked up at the location, and the remaining proceeded home directly.

Thursday 7/9…

An officer was dispatched for drag racing within the city limits. Based on vehicle descriptions, the area was patrolled, but no vehicles were located.

While conducting security checks, an officer located an open door. OCSD deputies assisted with clearing the building. Nothing was found out of order.

Friday 7/10…

An officer investigated a rental registration ordinance violation complaint. The landlord was contacted and the violations discussed. The landlord will contact the tenant to schedule and resolve the issues prior to a designated date, and confirmation of said repairs provided, or the violation will be cited.

An officer was called regarding a complaint of 2 dogs at large. Upon arrival the 2 dogs were observed at large by the officer. The owner was issued a citation.

An officer investigated a call for a well-being check. Upon arrival, the individual requested to be taken to RCH for an evaluation. Transportation was provided and the officer remained with the patient until they were safely checked in.

Saturday 7/11…

An officer located an individual in a vehicle parked at a public lot. The person was identified and was waiting for a friend to get out of work.

An officer was dispatched to locate a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was located and secured. The owner did not wish to pursue criminal charges, and will handle arrangements to retrieve the vehicle from this point forward.

An officer was called for a suspicious vehicle at a local park. The vehicle was located and all occupants identified. The occupants were driving around to occupy some time. Nothing suspicious was ascertained at this time.

Sunday 7/12…

An officer investigated a complaint of retail fraud at a local business. Statements were given, and the suspect’s identity was confirmed. The 34year-old male suspect was located, interviewed and was arrested for multiple valid Failure to Appear warrants and transported to jail without incident. Current charges for retail fraud have been submitted to the prosecutor’s office for review.

An officer was called for a complaint of suspicious activity at a local park. The area was patrolled, but the suspect was not located.

Monday 6/29…

An officer transported a 41year-old female to the Osceola County jail on the strength of a valid warrant for failure to appear.

An officer saw suspicious smoke rising from the back of a building and investigated. This turned out to be an individual smoking to***co and not an actual fire.

An officer was dispatched regarding a car/deer accident without injuries. Unfortunately, the animal was unable to move and had to be dispatched.

Officers conducted numerous traffic stops, issued citations, patrolled the town and conducted security checks.

Wednesday 7/1…

An officer was called to a residence for a domestic complaint. Interviews and statements were completed. This report has been sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

An officer investigated an ordinance violation concerning an inoperable vehicle.

An officer issued a time limit to resolve a grass ordinance violation. The resident proceeded to resolve the situation at that time.

Thursday 7/2…

An officer was dispatched to a family disagreement over custodial arrangements set forth by CPS. After investigation, the juvenile did follow CPS protocol and left with the appropriate family member.

An officer took statements from individuals on an alleged domestic incident. This case has been referred to the prosecutor’s office for review.

Friday 7/3…

An officer located and followed a suspicious vehicle while relaying locations to other agencies. A traffic stop was made and RCPD assisted until the incident was turned over to another agency with jurisdiction.

An officer was dispatched regarding a disorderly patient at RCH. Once staff was able to perform their duties the officer cleared.

An officer located a suspicious vehicle at a local business. One of the passengers was waiting for a ride from the location in that vehicle for safety. The ride arrived and the officer cleared.

An officer investigated a fireworks complaint. The individual at the location stated that they thought they had until midnight and concluded said activity upon explanation of the ordinance stipulations.

Saturday 7/4…

An officer was dispatched regarding an illegal fireworks complaint. The suspected fireworks were found to be in compliance with the city ordinance, and not illegal in nature.

Sunday 7/5…

During security checks an officer located 2 vehicles and one individual at a business after hours. The individual had parked there to rest before going to work in a few minutes, and no other individuals were found. The person left shortly thereafter

Please be advised that consumer fireworks are allowed to be discharged within the city starting June 29th to July 4th from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. only.

Please see Chapter 656.06 (below) which details the use of consumer fireworks.

656.06 CONSUMER FIREWORKS.

(a) Authority. This Section is hereby adopted pursuant to authority conferred upon local units of government by M.C.L.A. 28.457.

(b) Definitions.

(1) "Consumer fireworks" means fireworks devices that are designed to produce visible effects by combustion, that are required to comply with the construction, chemical composition, and labeling regulations promulgated by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission under 16 CFR parts 1500 and 1507, and that are listed in APA Standard 87-1, 3.1.1, 3.1.3, or 3.5. Consumer fireworks does not include low-impact fireworks.

(2) "Low-impact fireworks" means ground and handheld sparkling devices as that phrase is defined under APA Standard 87-1, 3.1, 3.1.1.1 to 3.1.1.8, and 3.5.

(c) Ignition, discharge and use of consumer fireworks. Consumer fireworks shall not be ignited, discharged or used in the City of Reed City except on the following dates and times:

(1) December 31 from 11:00 a.m. until January 1 until 1:00 a.m.

(2) The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day (allowed only from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on both days).

(3) From June 29 through July 4 (allowed only from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on each day).

(4) July 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. if July 5 falls on a Friday or Saturday.

(5) The Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day (allowed only from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on both days).

A person who violates this Subsection shall be responsible for a municipal civil infraction, punishable by a fine of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00). Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) of the fine collected under this Section shall be remitted to the City of Reed City Police Department.

(d) Other violations.

(1) A person shall not ignite, discharge, or use consumer fireworks on public property, school property, church property, or the property of another person without that organization's or person's express permission to use those fireworks on those premises. "Property of another person" includes hotel and motel property, apartment property, and condominium property, where an owner, management company, or association has or retains authority and control over the use of the property or common areas. A person who violates this Subsection is responsible for a civil infraction, punishable by a fine of up to One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), as provided by the Act.

(2) A person who ignites, discharges, or uses consumer fireworks or low-impact fireworks while under the influence of alcoholic liquor, a controlled substance, or a combination of alcoholic liquor and controlled substance, is guilty of a state civil infraction, punishable by a fine of up to One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00); or if the violation caused damage to the property of another person, guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by imprisonment for not more than 90 days or a fine of not more than One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00), or both.

(3) A person who owns or is in charge of property who knowingly allows consumer fireworks to be ignited, discharged or used in violation of this subsection shall be responsible for a municipal civil infraction, punishable by a fine of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).

(e) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection (c) of this Section, if the environmental concerns based on the Department of Natural Resources Fire Division criteria are elevated to extreme fire conditions or if the environmental concerns based on the Department of Natural Resources Fire Division criteria are elevated to very high for 72 consecutive hours, the City of Reed City Fire Chief, on consultation with the Department of Natural Resources, has the authority to enforce a no burning restriction that includes a ban on the ignition, discharge and use of consumer fireworks within a city. If a no burning restriction is instituted under this Subsection, the Fire Chief shall ensure that adequate notice of the restriction is provided to the public. Not more than 24 hours after the fire condition is downgraded from extreme or very high fire conditions, the Fire Chief shall lift the restriction and inform the public that the restriction has been lifted in the same manner that the restriction was announced or made known to the public. A person who violates such a ban shall be responsible for a municipal civil instruction, punishable by a fine of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).

Monday 6/22…

An officer investigated a motion alarm at a local store. No one was found inside, all doors were securely locked, and the offending suspect turned out to be balloons moving. The balloons were placed into a locked room.

An officer was dispatched for people loudly arguing and disturbing neighbors. The individuals were advised to go to separate rooms and stay clear of each other. A warning was issued for the noise. They were advised that if things should become physical it would be a crime and action taken.

Tuesday 6/23…

An officer was called for a tenant/landlord dispute over property. The property items were resolved between the two and the tenant left the location.

An officer observed two violations of the swimming pool ordinance. Both were improper fencing, and one was also not set back from the property line far enough. Both places were supplied the ordinances, as well as given dates to resolve the situation.

Wednesday 6/24…

An officer observed a bonfire that didn’t comply with city ordinance. The individual was advised and put the fire out.

An officer was called for a missing juvenile. While gathering details from the complainant, the child returned home.

Thursday 6/25…

Officers responded to a possible domestic in progress. It was found to have been a verbal argument only.

Officers arrested a 30 year-old male for an active warrant out of Reed City. The man was transported from Grand Traverse County to the Osceola County jail without incident.

Friday 6/26…

Officers were dispatched for a wellbeing check. Contact was made and the individual was okay.

An officer, on patrol, contacted residents of a home regarding grass and vehicle abatement violations. Copies of those ordinances were provided as well as a date to bring the items into compliance.

An officer contacted an elderly individual about riding their electric scooter in the road. The person was advised to use sidewalks unless there were obstructions present for their safety, and the safety of others.

An officer took a complaint of someone knocking on a door, and then walking around a home. It was determined the individual was hired to mow the lawn prior to the property being sold. He was advised the home had sold and the new owner would take care of the lawn.

An officer was dispatched for a well-being check due to a missed doctor’s appointment. They were found to be okay.

An officer was dispatched to a domestic incident. Interviews, statements, and evidence were gathered. This case has been sent to the prosecutor’s office and forwarded to CPS.

Saturday 6/27…

An officer transported a 39year-old male from Kent County to Osceola County jail for an active warrant of Failure to Appear. Transport was without incident.

An officer was called for a suspicious individual. The person was located and identified. They were trying to get a ride to a family member’s home out of town. The person proceeded on in their desired direction.

Sunday 6/28…

An officer took a complaint of a PPO violation. All attempts to contact the suspect were not successful. The violation was forwarded to the court.

An officer observed a person throwing a solar lawn light into the street. The individual was identified, and asked where they got the item. It was admitted that the item was from a yard up the road. The person was not able to identify the exact location. The matter is under investigation.

Monday 6/15…

An officer was dispatched to a telephone harassment call. The person in question was also belligerent to police upon contact.

An officer stopped a vehicle for speeding. The 36yr old male driver was issued an appearance citation for driving with a revoked license and cited for speed. The owner was the passenger, who had a valid license. The vehicle was turned over to the owner.

An officer was dispatched for a check well-being after a medical transport driver could not get a hold of their client. The client was found to have overslept and was okay.

Tuesday 6/16…

An officer was requested to check on the well being of a visually impaired individual and his young daughter after a woman, who had also been living there, had been arrested. They were found to be okay with relatives helping with needs.

An officer took a report of disorderly conduct after black tire marks from a bicycle were found inside the building at the new Celebration Park. The matter is under investigation.

An officer took a property damage report after a toilet paper dispenser in a city bathroom was found pulled from the wall and damaged. The matter is under investigation.

Wednesday 6/17…

An officer arrested a 29yr old woman on an outstanding warrant for child abuse. This stems from an investigation on the 8th of this month.

An officer was dispatched to an unwanted individual at a local business. A notice of Trespass was issued. If the individual returns they could be arrested for trespassing.

An officer was dispatched to check on an individual who made statements to indicate they might be suicidal. The individual was contacted and found to be okay.

Thursday 6/18…

An officer issued a verbal warning for loitering.

An officer took a report of the larceny of liquor on two different instances.

An officer took a report of an attempted assault that stopped after it was realized the aggressors had mistaken the identify of the individual.

An officer issued a trespass notice to two teen males after they refused to leave a female teens house when they were advised they were not allowed unless a parent was home.

An officer took a report of a teen firing a Co2 BB pistol at the neighbor’s trash cans and trees. The BB pistol was seized and the teen’s probation officer notified. The teen was cited for Discharging a BB gun in the city limits and MIP ma*****na. Charges of property destruction will also be sought.

Friday 6/19…

An officer was called to a local business after a dollar bill was found on the floor folded up with a white powder in it. The amount was minimal and the substance believed to be drugs. The matter is under investigation.

An officer took a report of bicycles stolen from an apartment complex.

An officer took a report of an individual who keeps contacting an elderly person and the contact is unwanted. A verbal warning was given.

Saturday 6/20…

An officer took a report of a dispute between tenants at an apartment complex. They were advised to leave each other alone. No criminal activity took place.

An officer took a private property damage accident in a parking lot. There was a minor scratch on one vehicle and no injuries.

An officer was called for a phone left behind at the Scrub A Dub laundromat. If you left your phone behind, please call to identify and claim it.

Tuesday 6/9…

An officer served three abatement notices for tall grass in violation of city ordinance.

An officer was called to a noise complaint. Upon investigation the matter will be referred to the Prosector for possible child abuse charges.

An officer received information regarding a teen doing self-harm. The matter was referred to Lake County where the jurisdiction was.

An officer took a report of teens using ma*****na and alcohol. Upon investigation the matter was unfounded.

An officer tagged an inoperable, unregistered vehicle that had been parked on the side of the street for days. If not taken care of within 48 hours, the vehicle will be towed

Wednesday 6/10…

A business owner called for a check well being on a client when they didn’t show for an appointment. The client was found to have had to leave for an emergency family matter and unable to call the business owner.

An officer served an abatement on a local business for grass in violation of city ordinance.

An officer was called for a drone being sold by an individual’s ex-wife. The individual was advised it was a civil matter.

An officer served an abatement for grass in violation of city ordinance.

An officer was called to assist the Mecosta County Sheriff Department in making contact with an individual having mental health difficulties. Contact was made and a firearm was voluntarily temporarily surrendered for safe keeping until it is safe to return or other arrangements can be made.

Officers served two grass and one vehicle abatement that were in violation of city ordinance.

An officer was requested by Mecosta County deputies to attempt contact with an independent adult that has some special needs and had not returned home when supposed to. The person was not located but a friend spoken to suggested other friend’s houses to check.

Friday 6/12…

An officer took a report of toilet paper wads stuck to the ceiling of the new Celebration Park. The matter is under investigation.

An officer served an abatement for a vehicle in violation of city ordinance.

An officer took a complaint of excessive noise and teens chasing each other with bottle rockets. A verbal warning was issued for noise and a copy of the City fireworks ordinance was provided.

An officer was dispatched to a possible intoxicated driver after a business had seen open alcohol containers in a vehicle. Contact was made with the individual who was found not to be driving impaired.

An officer arrested a 33yr old woman for an outstanding Friend of the Court warrant.

Saturday 6/13…

An officer stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a flashing signal. The 20yr old male driver was cited for failing to stop, refusing a PBT, and MIP alcohol. Another licensed driver was called to drive the vehicle and other teen occupants home.

An officer took a report of 3 individuals entering vehicles in an apartment complex parking lot. Video was obtained and the matter is under investigation.

An officer was dispatched to stand by to keep the peace while an individual checked on a relative. The relative was found not to be at home.

Monday 6/1…

An officer was called for a theft. The matter is under investigation.

An officer was called for a vandalism complaint. It is believed the neighboring juveniles were throwing eggs at a house. The matter is under investigation.

Officers followed up on various abatement violations and performed security checks and patrol duties.

Tuesday 6/2…

An officer was dispatched for an area check for someone screaming for help. An adult individual with mental health issues was found to be distraught over family matters. The individual stated they didn’t realize they were being loud. They were determined to be okay, and no further problems were reported.

An officer was called for property damage at a local business. An order was placed and then canceled and changed to a larger size of the same item. An independent delivery driver became angry over not receiving both orders. He damaged a toilet in the business before throwing the order out his car window and driving off. The matter is under investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a local park for a weapons complaint. The teen caller had been arguing with an unknown male online who had showed a picture of someone with a plastic firearm. The matter was unfounded and parents were made aware.

An officer was dispatched to a residence for a domestic. It was determined to be a verbal argument between roommates.

An officer was called for a civil issue with a disobedient juvenile. Statements were taken and a report is on file.

Wednesday 6/3…

Officers were called for a complaint of a door alarm and loud music. An individual was located asleep on the couch. The music was found to be coming from the television and the door alarm was to alert the individual if her children tried to leave without her knowledge. A verbal warning was issued.

An officer conducted a joint investigation with CPS for a possible criminal sexual conduct matter. Upon investigation the matter was unfounded.

An officer located 2 individuals going door to door. Subjects were identified and advised of the Peddler ordinance and procedure to obtain a permit. Their employer came and picked them up.

An officer located a curfew violation during patrol. Individuals were identified, and 2 verbal warnings were given. The individuals agreed to go home.

Officers were called to a 2-vehicle property damage accident. Both vehicles could not be driven and were towed away. A citation was issued for failing to yield to oncoming traffic and a report is on file.

Officers were called to a well-being check. No one responded to various attempts of contact, the property was secure with no signs of forced entry. Nothing suspicious could be found at this time. A report is on file.

Officers were called for a theft complaint. Investigation produced the items.

Thursday 6/4…

An officer was dispatched for a parking complaint. The vehicle turned out to be a friend. The complainant did not wish further action.

An officer was dispatched for a suicidal individual. The person requested a ride to hospital for treatment. The individual was transported without incident.

Officers conducted follow up investigations and traffic enforcement.

Saturday 6/6…

An officer took a complaint of harassment. All involved were advised to have no contact with each other.

Officers took a complaint of suspicious camera placement at a local business. It was determined a child had pulled on the camera cable causing it to fall off a shelf and point at a 45 degree angle up from the floor. The owner had not had a chance to put the camera back due to other customers.

An officer received a fire ordinance violation complaint. The homeowners were found to be compliant with city ordinance.

An officer was dispatched to assist OCSD on a well-being check with a possibly intoxicated individual who had the potential to be dangerous. The individual was talked to, and called friends. The individual was released into the friend’s care without incident.
