On Monday, Fire Chief Michael Canales and Lieutenant Jaren Hudson had the privilege of participating in St. La Salle School's morning prayers where the faculty and students prayed for all First Responders. The students then presented the Department with numerous drawings, handmade cards, and letters of appreciation.

Later that day, students from Mrs. Reynoso's 3rd grade class, Ms. Robledo's 4th grade class, and Mrs. Delgado's 5th grade class visited the Fire Station for a tour. The students were very inquisitive, and our firefighters enjoyed interacting with them.

Thank you St. La Salle School for your continued prayers!

Today is a bittersweet day for the City of Reedley Fire Department. We are happy to see our Chief Jerry Isaak embark in a new chapter in life titled "Retirement". Chief Isaak has worked for the Fire Department since July 1, 1994 and became the Fire Chief in 2007.
Chief Isaak has demonstrated the perfect definition of leader and public servant. We will miss him terribly, but look forward to hearing about his adventures in retirement.

A Public Safety Message: FOG Safety

Tule Fog is one of the leading causes of weather-related traffic collisions in California. If you live in or near the San Joaquin Valley, you will almost certainly have to drive through it.

It is never ideal to drive in dense fog. The best advice for driving in the fog is DON’T! You should consider postponing your trip until the fog clears. However, if you must drive, then drive slow, turn on your windshield wipers, and use your low-beam headlights along with fog lights. The light from the high-beam headlights will reflect back and cause glare.

NOTE: If your vehicle has headlights that come on automatically, they may not come on at all during fog conditions. It is important that you turn the headlight switch from automatic to manual so you can be certain the headlights are on before you leave.

Never drive with just your parking or fog lights.

Increase your following distance and be prepared to stop within the space you can see ahead. Avoid crossing or passing lanes of traffic unless absolutely necessary. Listen for traffic you cannot see. Use your wipers and defroster as necessary for best vision and use the painted road markings at the right of the road as a visual guide.

If the fog becomes so thick that you can barely see, consider pulling off the roadway, activating your emergency signal lights, and waiting until the weather improves before continuing.

Be cautious and stay safe!

As the temperatures begin to drop in certain areas of the country, it is important to never attempt to use your stove to heat your home. These appliances are not designed for this and can easily become a fire danger.
