On April 1st, 2026, at approximately 2200 hours, Officer Morgan stopped a black Toyota 4Runner near 11th Street and Highway 101 in Reedsport. During his initial contact with the female driver, Officer Morgan identified signs of criminal behavior due to the driver's behavior and travel itinerary.
At approximately 2205 hours, Corporal Snyder and K9 Snow arrived on the scene. Officer Morgan briefed Corporal Snyder regarding his reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. Corporal Snyder then contacted the female driver. During this contact, the female driver informed Corporal Snyder that she was carrying a concealed handgun. The driver was then detained and taken into custody for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
Once the female was in custody, Corporal Snyder informed her that he was going to deploy his narcotics K9 to the exterior of the vehicle. At this time, the female driver admitted to possessing a bag of methamphetamine that was concealed in her purse. She further stated that there were four more guns in the vehicle. Corporal Snyder obtained consent from the driver to search her vehicle. During the search, Officer Morgan located four more fi****ms that were concealed in the back of the vehicle. Corporal Snyder located approximately 9.5 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the driver's purse, along with multiple syringes.
While Officer Morgan was searching a bag in the backseat, he located a suspicious cylinder. The cylinder was placed on the bumper of the vehicle until it could be identified. Corporal Snyder and Officer Morgan then confronted the female regarding the cylinder. The female disclosed that she believed it was a hand gr***de. At this time, Corporal Snyder contacted the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad and informed them of what was discovered.
Due to the situation, Highway 101 was partially closed, and officers secured the area and waited for the bomb squad to arrive.
At approximately 0330 hours on April 2nd, bomb technicians from the Central Point office arrived on the scene and took control of the suspected hand gr***de. Once the scene was secure, the highway was reopened, and the female was transported and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on multiple charges.
