Monaken Lodge 103, OA

Monaken Lodge 103, OA Welcome to the official page of Monaken Lodge 103 This recognition provides encouragement for others to live these ideals as well.

For more than 95 years, the Order of the Arrow (OA) has recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Arrowmen are known for maintaining camping traditions and spirit, promoting year-round and long-term resident camping, developing leaders, and providing cheerful service to others. Monaken Day at Delgrosso’s Park and Laguna Splash

The Nittany Chapter of Monaken Lodge would like to invite all current, past and future members of all Chapters of the Monaken Lodge along with their family and friends to join us all day Sunday August 7th for a fun filled day at Delgrosso’s Park. For more information and directions to park please check out their website at https://www.mydelgrossopark.com/

Lunch will be available from 12 until 2pm at one of the park pavilions at no cost, look for the Monaken Lodge flag and what I would guess will be the only stuffed woodchuck in the park that day. If you still can’t find us, simply yell “Who’s Rocken?” and wait the the reply.

A discounted ride all day pass, including the water park, will be available for the price of $20 per person starting at 11 at the pavilion as well. So be sure to bring your suit (no swim test required, but you will need a buddy.) This discounted pass is available to all lodge members, friends and family. If you do not wish to purchase a ride all day pass, you can purchase ride tickets on your own, or just come and catch up your pals from the Lodge for free as there is no admission cost to enter the park if you are not riding rides. We will have the pavilion all day long, so bring some patches to trade and memories to share with both Lodge members past, present and future.

In order to make sure we have enough hotdogs, we are asking for everyone to fill out this form, https://forms.gle/TmztMxkXYFH33Aw66 with their best guess on how many guests you are bringing with you. If you want to bring a food item to share please let us know on the form as well.

Again, this event is not just limited to current Monaken Lodge members, please share with others Lodge members that you have not seen in a while. Use this as a reason to get the family out of the house, this is a fun day, a fellowship day for everyone past, present and future including their friends and family.

YIS,

Jack Serefine

Results of Operation Abiding Phoenix – CAMPING WEEKEND 17-19 MAY

Dear Abiding Warriors, Scout Troop Campers, and Friends,

We could not have not have asked, nor planned better weather than we had this past weekend!! What a great time we had on “Dear ole, Treasure Isle. Full moon by night, clear sky and sun by day. The U.S. and (returned) Treasure Island flags flew in the breeze all day.

Three troops camped and did service work with us: T 1, Bob Kilian, SM, WCC: T 79, R. Bruce Cattie Jr., SM, WCC; and T 1058 (the Great 58!), Dominic R. Curcio, SM from Garden State Council. Even P 120, Nathan Burvainis, CM came out with a crew to build a bridge for the Webelos crossover ceremony they are holding on TI in June

Take a look at all the posted photos.

The service projects included: Canal path clean up both N and S of TI for about ½ mile in each direction to assist the Friends of the Delaware Canal; trash cleanup and removal from camp, reorganization and a good sweep down in the Mess Hall; tree pruning near the TI barge landing (thanks T 1!); cutting down and cutting up trees, clearing all the brush into piles in Moore site which is almost ready for camper occupation, only four more threat trees to come down (we have a wealth of firewood on TI); and additional cut wood stacking on the Pine Road side of the Parade Ground. The Scouts and their leaders did a great service to our beloved camp, HOW! HOW!

The SPL Council of Zack, Max, and Zack (sounds like a Law Firm) decided to hold a joint campfire on Saturday night and as hosted by T 1, to attend a Scout Vespers, interfaith service in the Woodland Chapel on Sunday morning. Thank you, Chip!

The Friends of Treasure Island would like to express its sincere thanks for the donation from the services collection. This contribution will help us make the “new TI” a haven for Scout camping and extend the Treasure Island spirit to a new generation of Scouts.

HOW! HOW! And special a thank you goes out to: Steve Benckert our Barge Operator for the weekend for the many water runs to the Rangers house; Jackson Benckert for the awesome job as Bowman and equipment loading and unloading; and Tony Cirino and fiancé Rebeca on chainsaw and service project lead. By the way guys, the chainsaws work better after you start them. Just say’n.

The troops were ready to come off on Sunday morning and by 11:30 AM the last Scout was off the barge and headed to the parking lot. During my one last sweep for any trash I am pleased to say and to the units credit there was none. We hope to see you all back with us soon.

John Haubert (owner) and the FoTI leadership thanks you for all the time, energy, and sweat you put in to make TI a safer place to camp. HOW! HOW!

We still have a great deal to do. We have to open up the camping sites that were neglected for 10 years. Cut down threat trees and cut up those that are on the ground. It seems the trees have it in for structures as they seem to fall on them rather than in clear areas.

We are accepting camping requests for the rest of our scheduled dates and RSVPs for our next Operation Abiding Phoenix (a workday on Treasure Island) - Saturday, 1 June 2019. To make a camping reservation or RSVP for the workday email Hank: [email protected]. We will serve lunch – FREE for workers.
