Bulloch County Announces Public Protection Classification Rating

STATESBORO, GA — Bulloch County is proud to announce the results of its recent evaluation by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) regarding the community's structural fire suppression delivery system. Following a comprehensive survey, Bulloch County has been awarded a Public Protection Classification rating of 04/10, effective September 1, 2026.
Under this new rating, the Class 4 classification applies to all areas within five road miles from any recognized Bulloch County fire station, while properties located beyond five road miles receive a Class 10 rating.
The ISO Public Protection Classification program evaluates the fire suppression capabilities of local communities. Insurance companies across the United States utilize these scores as a key component when determining property insurance underwriting guidelines and premium rates for both residential and commercial properties.
County leadership and the Bulloch County Fire Department extend their sincere appreciation to all local officials, personnel, and residents whose cooperation made this successful survey possible. The updated classification reflects the dedicated resources and ongoing efforts devoted to strengthening fire protection and public safety throughout our community.

“The new ISO rating demonstrates the professionalism of the Bulloch County Fire Department (BCFD) and their dedication to serving the people of Bulloch County,” noted County Commission Chairman David Bennett. “The improved ISO rating quantifies an improvement in the services provided by the BCFD and will result in a homeowners insurance savings for many people.”
Communities with strong fire protection benchmarks often experience favorable considerations in property insurance pricing. Furthermore, the classification rating serves as an invaluable planning and budgeting tool for the fire department as it continues to enhance local safety infrastructure.

Firefighters and multiple tankers are on Buie Driggers Road to continue dealing with this brush fire. Our crews are teaming with Georgia Forestry to shuttle water as forestry teams push into hard-to-reach areas to extinguish hot spots.

Sheriff’s deputies continue to limit traffic to residents and emergency crews. Non-residents are asked to avoid the area. Unnecessary traffic on the road creates more dust, restricts visibility, and hampers personnel. This includes flying drones in the area. Forestry aircraft are flying and drones interfere with them.

We’ll continue to update everyone as the situation continues.
