Rehoboth Ma Fire Department This is the official page of the Rehoboth (MA) Fire Department Our jurisdiction also includes Interstate 195 and State highways 6, 44, and 118.

Receives Authority Under MGL Chapter 48 Section 42
Mass Fire Region 2 District 3
EMS Region V
Bristol County Fire Chiefs Association (4 Members)
Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts (FCAM) (2 members)

The department covers a 46 square mile area and serves a population of more than 11,000 residents. We have a mix of property to protect from large farms to single family homes to indust

rial to commercial. We are mostly a rural community with vast wooded areas and no municipal water supply that presents special challenges to firefighting and requires specialized equipment to mitigate incidents. The department is made up of approximately 70 paid on-call staff members assigned to three strategically located stations in the north, center, and south districts of the town. Firefighters are only compensated for hours actually spent at incidents training and one three hour duty shift per month. Our operating budget is $66,050 or $5.75 per resident, which makes us the lowest cost per capita department in the area. The Chief is the only full-time member. His is a permanent appointment by the Rehoboth Board of Selectmen, under Chapter 48 of the General Laws meaning that he can only be removed for just cause after a hearing. The Fire Chief organizes the three fire companies in Rehoboth with such membership as may be approved by the Board of Selectmen. He also has the authority to appoint a captain and other officers for each fire company. The Chief also serves as the town Forest Fire Warden and represents the department on various municipal committees. The department assists and receives assistance from surrounding communities through mutual aid. We are also members of the Bristol County Task Force and the State mutual aid system. These systems also allow access to specialized equipment and resources throughout the region. The department has been equipped by the town with quality apparatus and equipment that has proven invaluable to our mission. We have also acquired used and surplus equipment and apparatus over the years to assist with our specialized operations. As stated previously, the town has no municipal water system. This requires us to bring our initial supply with us to incidents requiring fire suppression. We have three tanker trucks in our fleet with a capacity of 10,000 gallons of water. Along with our other apparatus that would typically respond to this type of incident, we arrive with 13,000 + gallons of water. Our vast wooded areas require us to also maintain various size “brush trucks” with off road capability. You may view all of our apparatus elsewhere on the official site. We also staff Fire Prevention and Public Education divisions within our department. The focus of the department has been and will continue to be valuable service to the residents and visitors of the community, professional development of a well-trained and competent membership, and the safety of our citizens. In addition, we strive to conserve resources, operate safely, and be valuable members of the town and contribute in any way we can. We invite you to visit our stations, meet our staff, and tour our facilities and equipment. If you have any questions, are interested in joining us, or need information about any of our programs you can contact us through the links throughout the site. We are glad to hear from you

To the Residents of Rehoboth,

On behalf of myself and my family, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for the outpouring of support following my recent dismissal as Fire Chief. Your kind words, messages, and encouragement have meant more than I can express.

While this decision was made by the town, I want to be clear that I am disappointed by the decision of the Board of Selectman I harbor no ill will toward anyone. My service to this community has always been, and will always remain, a point of pride. I accepted the responsibility of protecting lives and property with honor, and I have never taken that trust lightly.

The strength of a community is measured not just in its fire stations or town halls, but in the heart of its people — and your solidarity in this time has reminded me how truly strong Rehoboth is. Knowing that so many of you recognized my integrity and dedication affirms why I was proud to serve here.

Though I no longer wear the title, I will always be a neighbor, a friend, and someone who cares deeply about the safety and wellbeing of this town. Thank you for standing beside me when it would have been easier to stay silent. I am humbled and forever grateful. If I was afforded the opportunity to return as the Chief, I would start back today.

I would like to finally thank the Firefighters of the Rehoboth Fire Department. Their support has been overwhelming. I knew we had a department of loyal and hardworking Firefighters; I did not realize the support I had as their Chief. The text messages and phone calls asking how I’m doing, how I’m feeling, what I’m thinking and what I plan do next has been very emotional. They understand I had their back; I had their safety and their wellbeing as my number one priority. If I could apologize to each and every one of them I would. Hopefully this letter lets them all know how I think of them all.

Lastly, I need to apologize to my children. Anyone who knows me knows I try to lead a private life and keep matters to myself and deal with them on my own. Hunter, Aidan and Lauren I did a disservice to you by not letting you know what was going on. I am sorry you had to find out what was going on with me on Facebook the day of the hearing. I am not sure where any of this will be going in the future, but I want to let you know I will always appreciate your love and support.

With deep appreciation,
Mark Haskell

Today, the Rehoboth Fire Department received a visit from our state and federal representatives. Congressman Auchincloss, Senator Dooner and Representative Howett visited our Station 2 on Tremont Street. We discussed the current needs of the Fire Service in general along with our partners from Seekonk Fire Chief Whalen and Deputy Delesio. We spoke specifically about the needs of the Rehoboth Fire Department today and in the future. They had a tour of our 75 year old station and recognized the need for updated facilities so we can continue providing service to the town for the next 75 years. Who knows what may come of it…….
