Are you a tenant with unreported income? If so, you may be committing fraud and are in serious jeopardy of losing your housing.

• Have you started a new job…?
• Are you receiving new or increased Social Security assistance?
• Is someone giving you financial assistance to help pay your rent?

These are all scenarios that the Housing Authority defines as Unreported Income.

Since your rent is pretty much entirely based on your income, not reporting is considered fraud and is among other things, grounds for termination of your lease.

But you’re probably thinking, “How will the Housing Authority folks find out ??? ”

The answer is that the Housing Authority has two different means of determining whether your income has changed or if you are presently working. One is called the “Enterprise Income Verification System” which is part of the government’s tools to track employment by those residing in public housing.

The other is called “The Work Number”, which is an independent service through Equifax.

The bottom line is, we would like to encourage all of our tenants to be sure to report all income at all times. Don’t wait till you’re caught and potentially risk your future housing, not only with our Housing Authority, but all assisted housing.
