💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

Mental health conditions are medical conditions and people living with them are so much more than a diagnosis.

This , let’s lead with understanding, compassion, and respect. When we choose to see the whole person, we help create a community where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to seek help.

At Help, Incorporated, we see every day how mental health is deeply connected to trauma:

• Domestic violence survivors may experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ongoing safety concerns that impact emotional well-being long after the abuse ends.
• Sexual assault survivors often face complex trauma, including shame, fear, and difficulty trusting others, but healing is possible with the right support.
• Children and teens exposed to violence may show changes in behavior, school performance, or emotional regulation, often carrying those impacts into adulthood without intervention.
• Men are also affected—often silently. Social stigma can make it harder to seek help, yet support and healing are just as critical.

There is also a strong connection between trauma and substance use disorders. Many individuals turn to substances as a way to cope with overwhelming experiences. Compassionate, trauma-informed care recognizes this intersection and supports both mental health and recovery without judgment.

Support can look like:

• Listening and believing
• Offering safe, nonjudgmental spaces
• Encouraging connection to services
• Prioritizing your own mental health and well-being

Learn more about mental health and available resources through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: https://www.samhsa.gov/mental-health

Together, we can ensure every person is seen beyond their experiences, heard without judgment, and supported on their path to healing.

Today we proudly wore denim in support of survivors and in recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

From jeans to jackets to skirts, our team stood together to send a clear and unified message: Clothing is never an indication of consent!

Denim Day serves as a powerful reminder that blame should never be placed on victims based on what they were wearing. Every survivor deserves to be believed, supported, and treated with dignity and respect.

At Help, Incorporated: Center Against Violence, we remain committed to standing with survivors, raising awareness, and working alongside our community partners to ensure access to safety, healing, and justice.

💙 Thank you to everyone who participated and helped amplify this important message. Together, we continue to make a difference!
