💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
Mental health conditions are medical conditions and people living with them are so much more than a diagnosis.
This , let’s lead with understanding, compassion, and respect. When we choose to see the whole person, we help create a community where individuals feel supported, valued, and empowered to seek help.
At Help, Incorporated, we see every day how mental health is deeply connected to trauma:
• Domestic violence survivors may experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ongoing safety concerns that impact emotional well-being long after the abuse ends.
• Sexual assault survivors often face complex trauma, including shame, fear, and difficulty trusting others, but healing is possible with the right support.
• Children and teens exposed to violence may show changes in behavior, school performance, or emotional regulation, often carrying those impacts into adulthood without intervention.
• Men are also affected—often silently. Social stigma can make it harder to seek help, yet support and healing are just as critical.
There is also a strong connection between trauma and substance use disorders. Many individuals turn to substances as a way to cope with overwhelming experiences. Compassionate, trauma-informed care recognizes this intersection and supports both mental health and recovery without judgment.
Support can look like:
• Listening and believing
• Offering safe, nonjudgmental spaces
• Encouraging connection to services
• Prioritizing your own mental health and well-being

Together, we can ensure every person is seen beyond their experiences, heard without judgment, and supported on their path to healing.
