Reidsville Confederate Monument-Restoration Project

Reidsville Confederate Monument-Restoration Project Donations/Contributions For Return of Reidsville Confederate Monument That this monument was removed without due process.

Historical Preservation Action Committee (HPAC) has been set up to fight the issue that the "Reidsville Confederate"

(as noted in the September 19,2011 letter to the City of Reidsville) ....monument became entitled to protection as a State-owned historic monument by act of the General Assembly 1941, and the City and UDC president are powerless to undo that protection. Any ownership interest the

City may have taken in the land brought with it the duty to maintain and preserve the State-owned historic monument. It is in this venue that HPAC has been formed and in addition this page and other useful and warranted information which will involve the collection of donations and utilize any fundraisers for the ultimate purpose of the return of said monument to its original location.

I wanted to thank each and every person who took the time to visit this page during the fight to retain the monument in its place. It is now obvious that the 'new' statue has been deemed to be 'dead' and therefore placed in a cemetery. So, with the potential of receiving some new 'artwork' and lordy who knows what THAT thing is. This 'artwork' is more out of place than a fireplace in the middle of the woods. Guess the 'powers to be' have determined that Reidsville is not the laid back country town of yesterday but is somehow more like NYC. Therefore, I will taking this page down in the next week or so since it is no longer necessary. In the meantime, if anyone has any last thoughts then feel free to post. I will keep the video that I worked on so hard during that period up on YT so that it can continue to be a blessing to one and all.

Looked at the majority of the Court of Appeals cases to see when this would come up. Don't see anything...man, this is really slow on all of this...imo

It looks like the battle over the Reidsville Confederate Monument may take longer to sort out in court.

What a great feeling to have the sanction of the County Commissioners! They took a stand for us when it counted, no matter what repercussions may result from the unanimous vote to agree with us in returning the monument to its rightful place. The courage demonstrated by the County Commissioners on 2-18-2013 would have made the soldiers that fought and died in the war very proud. Please take a moment out of your busy day to email or phone these commissioners and thank them for their help! It may not be a legal victory, but this moral victory certainly feels wonderful!

Thank You.
HPAC Committee

Here is the email that I sent to each one of them today:
"Thank you for taking a stand relating to the Reidsville Confederate Monument. As a former citizen of Reidsville and someone who had great, great grandfathers and their brothers(from both sides of Mother and Daddy's family) that fought in the Civil War this monument stood for their sacrifice. My paternal great, great grandfather left a wife and two small children (one was my great-grandfather who was less than two years old) to fight for his family and other things. As a result, my great, great grandfather's heritage has given over 500 family members in the greater Rockingham County area. I haven't even counted the other relatives. Needless to say, this monument is important to me and to many whose heritage is vital to be remembered. So, again, thank you for your 'moral' stance and courage."

The Va Flaggers joined Jamie Funkhouser and the Tar Heel Flaggers in Reidsville, NC to stand in the spot where a Confederate Monument once stood. After being hit by a vehicle, the NC State UDC decided NOT to put the monument back where it has stood for 101 years, in the center of town, but to move it to an obscure cemetery location, rather than "cause controversy". Jamie has been standing in this circle for over a year and is now, thanks to Reidsville officials, is forced to stand on the 6" curb of the monument. Here, Va Flagger TriPp Lewis has a little fun with it..
