Today we celebrated D.A.R.E. graduation with the 5th grade students at South End Elementary School!

Over the last several weeks, students participated in D.A.R.E. classes with Certified D.A.R.E. Instructor Lt. Sharra Carter. Students learned important lessons about making safe and responsible decisions, resisting peer pressure, bullying prevention, the dangers of drugs and alcohol, and building self-confidence and leadership skills.

Congrats to the winners of the D.A.R.E. Essay contest; Serenity Harbor and Alina Benton!

Special thank you to guest speaker Sgt. Brad Bonds who shared an inspiring message of encouragement to the students today.

We are proud of each student for their participation and hard work throughout the program. Thank you to the staff and teachers at South End School for partnering with us to help make a positive impact on our youth and community.

MEDIA RELEASE-May 29, 2026

At approximately 6:19 p.m. on May 28, 2026, officers with the Reidsville Police Department responded to a report that a Norfolk Southern freight train had struck two individuals who were sitting on the railroad tracks.

The collision resulted in the deaths of an adult male and an adult female. The victims have been identified as Lisa Coefield (age 59) and David Lee Barnhardt (age 56).

Investigators have notified their family members and are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

The Reidsville Police Department extends its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy.

Cruising Downtown? Know the Scooter Rules

We love seeing people out and about enjoying our beautiful downtown, but if you are operating an electric standup scooter or e-bike, please remember:

• Stay off downtown sidewalks: Sidewalks are reserved for pedestrians. Scooters belong on the roadway.
• Follow the rules of the road: You must ride in the same direction as vehicular traffic. Never ride against the flow of traffic.
• Hold your lane: Avoid weaving in and out of traffic lanes, parked cars, or pedestrians.

Always:
• Wear a helmet
• Obey traffic laws and signals
• Ride responsibly and avoid reckless behavior
• Know what type of vehicle you are operating and the laws that apply to it

Parents, please take a moment to review these rules with your children before purchasing or allowing the use of electric bikes or scooters. Memorial Day weekend is here! As we celebrate the unofficial start of summer and honor the brave heroes who gave all for our freedom, the Reidsville Police Department wants to ensure our community stays safe.

If you are traveling or celebrating this weekend, please keep these quick safety tips in mind:

Focus on the Drive: Traffic will be heavier than usual. Put the phones down, eliminate distractions, and keep your eyes on the road. Let’s make sure everyone gets to their destination safely.

Click It Ticket: Ensure every passenger in your vehicle is properly buckled up before hitting the gas.

Plan a Safe Ride (on the road or water): If your holiday celebrations involve alcohol, make the right choice before you start drinking. Designate a sober driver, call a rideshare, or arrange for a friend to get you home safely.

Secure Your Home: If you're heading out of town, make sure all doors and windows are locked, timers are set for lights, and a trusted neighbor knows to keep an eye out.

Grilling: It's still very dry in our area so please use extra caution and never leave a BBQ grill unattended.

Sun and Heat: Drink plenty of water and use water resistant sunscreen.

Water: Ensure children and inexperienced swimmers wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jackets when in or around water. Watch children closely.

Today, Ms. Vickie McKinney and Investigator Tonya Kroh attended the “She Means Business” Women’s Business & Industry Expo in Reidsville. They returned to RPD inspired by the speakers, networking opportunities, and breakout sessions focused on leadership, growth, and empowerment.

We are especially proud that one of RPD’s own, Lt. Sharra Carter, led a breakout session on practical self-defense strategies to help women stay safe and confident in everyday situations.

We are thankful that Reidsville continues to offer opportunities like this to connect, learn, and grow.

The Reidsville Police Department's administrative offices will be closed Monday, May 25, 2026, in observance of Memorial Day. We hope you and your family have a safe and happy holiday.

Happy Police Dog Day!

Today we celebrate the four RPD K9s who work alongside our officers every day. Each of them serve the City of Reidsville with dedication, discipline, and heart. All of our K9s are trained in narcotics detection, locating missing or wanted individuals, and article searches. They are truly an essential part of keeping our community safe.

Meet our K9 Unit:

🐾 K9 Harley - A yellow Labrador with a big heart who never turns down attention or a good backside rub. Don’t let her sweet personality fool you because she’s all business when it’s time to work.

🐾 K9 Ziro -Our Dutch Shepherd and the respected senior leader of the group. Serious, focused, and experienced, Ziro sets the tone for professionalism in the unit.

🐾 K9 Holly - A happy black Labrador who brings joy wherever she goes. If there’s water nearby, Holly is in her element, but she’s just as committed when it’s time to hit the streets.

🐾 K9 Curo -A Shepherd/Malinois mix and the energetic “baby” of the team. Full of drive and enthusiasm, Curo is always ready for the next challenge.

We’re proud of the work these four‑legged officers do and grateful for the bond they share with their handlers.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and service of the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. We remember those we have lost, stand with the families they left behind, and thank the officers who continue to serve our community each day. Their commitment and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
