New Acquisition at Oneida County History Center

This tintype depicts Reverend Ebenezer Salisbury, (1812 - 1874) and his wife, Catharine, who lived in Remsen, New York. Tintypes were the most prevalent photographic process in America from the late 1850s through the 1870s. Created by applying a light-sensitive emulsion to a thin sheet of iron coated with dark lacquer, the tintype was durable and relatively cheap to produce. The photos were often carried in pockets or sent through the mail to loved ones. NICE HAT!

In this photo, Garrett Tomaino, President of the Remsen Barn FOTA presents a check with the donation to R-SHS President Jean Kraeger. They are surrounded by members of both community groups. Construction for the new roof will begin this spring.
