On Thursday, May 21st, Mrs. Obernesser took students from the Food and Nutrition class and the Animal Science class to Simply C's farm in Boonville. This trip was coordinated with Chrissy Claudio, the Director of Producer Communications & Consumer Engagement with the New York Beef Council.

Leading up to this field trip, students in the Food and Nutrition class completed courses through Beef University and did a cooking lab using beef. In Mrs. Ives' animal science class, they learned about food production, as well as the anatomy and physiology of cows.

On Wednesday, May 20th, Josh Meeker competed in Round 1 of the NYS Section 3 Boys Golf State Qualifier at Timber Banks in Baldwinsville. He posted a solid score of 90, finishing tied for 38th place in a competitive field of 85 golfers. While only the top 20 advanced to the second day, Josh’s performance reflects his dedication and strong effort at a high level of competition.

On Thursday, May 21st, Madeline Doty and Ellie Secor competed in the NYS Section 3 Girls Golf State Qualifier at Teugega Country Club in Rome. Maddy embraced the opportunity, gaining valuable experience in her first year of competitive golf—an impressive accomplishment in itself, and one we are very proud of. Ellie delivered an outstanding performance, carding a 92 to secure 7th place and earn a spot on the Section 3 State Team. She will represent Section 3 at the NYS Girls Golf Championship, held June 6–8.

We are incredibly proud of all three athletes for their hard work, sportsmanship, and commitment to the game. Congratulations to Ellie for qualifying to compete at States!

On Tuesday, May 19, 26 of our 8th-grade students took to the water at the scenic Forestport Mill Pond for an immersive, hands-on introduction to the sport of kayaking. The trip focused on building foundational outdoor skills, teamwork, and confidence on the water.

Throughout the day, students learned essential kayaking techniques, including:

Water Safety & Equipment Basics: Understanding proper life jacket (PFD) fit and paddle handling.

Navigation & Maneuvering: Mastering forward strokes, reverse strokes, and turning efficiently.

Environmental Awareness: Appreciating local waterways while practicing "Leave No Trace" principles.

The calm waters of the Mill Pond provided the perfect classroom for our young paddlers. By the afternoon, every student had successfully gained control of their kayak, turning a day of learning into an unforgettable outdoor adventure!

The Remsen FFA chapter traveled to Buffalo on Thursday, May 15th to attend the annual New York State FFA Convention. It was an exciting and very successful trip for our FFA chapter.

Agriscience Fair Success
Three of our talented students competed in the rigorous Agriscience Fair, and we are thrilled to share that all three placed at the top of their fields:

Trent Jenny: 1st Place in his category & division – Eligible to apply to the National FFA Agriscience Fair!
Noah Homsi: 1st Place in his category & division – Eligible to apply to the National FFA Agriscience Fair!
Mikhael Samoshuk: 2nd Place in his category & division
We are extremely proud of the hard work, research, and dedication these students poured into their projects.

Leadership in Action
In addition to the agriscience competitions, Remsen FFA Officers Michael Nelson (Chapter President) and Riley Horn (Chapter Treasurer) attended the convention as representatives of our school. They spent their time participating in personal development workshops and exploring the convention's Expo Center.

On Monday, May 18th and Tuesday, May 19th, members of the Senior Class successfully completed their training to become fully certified in adult, child and infant CPR.

This initiative was made possible through the coordination of Mrs. Obernesser and Mrs. Ultsch, our elementary school nurse. Mrs. Ultsch recently completed the training necessary to become a certified instructor so she could bring this vital program directly to our students.

Students were trained in small groups of about 8, over the course of two school days. Thank you to Mrs. Ultsch and Mrs. Obernesser for making this possible for our students.

On Monday, May 18th, the Senior Class swapped their traditional classroom schedule for a day of hands-on service learning right here on campus. Our soon-to-be graduates rolled up their sleeves and poured their energy into a variety of projects to beautify our school and support meaningful community initiatives.

Coordinated by Mrs. Nehme, the day was a huge success and a wonderful showcase of our seniors' leadership and school pride.

Hard Work Across Campus
The seniors split into teams to tackle several major projects both inside and outside our school buildings:

Beautifying the Grounds: Outside, students worked hard spreading mulch and planting vibrant flowers to freshen up our campus landscaping for the spring.

Library Organization & Upgrades: Indoors, seniors helped organize resources in both the Elementary and Jr./Sr. High school libraries. They also prepared and mounted new, helpful library signage to improve the spaces for future students.

Supporting Remsen Air Drop: In the spirit of community outreach, students spent time sorting and organizing generously donated items for the Remsen Air Drop initiative.

A Special Thank You
An event like this requires a lot of behind-the-scenes teamwork. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Mr. Doty, Mrs. Laurey, and Mrs. Winghart for planning, coordinating, and providing these excellent service projects for our seniors.

Thank you, Class of 2026, for working hard to make our campus a little brighter.
