Lombardo has given up on even trying to address the cost-of-living crisis, Mark Amodei won’t endorse David Flippo, and more in this week’s roundup!

Nevadans are struggling with the rising cost of just about everything, and all Lombardo could say was, “I can’t control that.” Lombardo has the power to do something, but so far they’ve used that power to veto bills that would have helped working families, while cozying up with the Trump administration.

Not even Mark Amodei will endorse David Flippo for CD2. We may disagree with Amodei on just about everything, but we agree that David Flippo is nothing more than a failed candidate who couldn’t cut it in Las Vegas and sees CD2 as an easy win.

Head Start was a game changer for low-income families when it began in 1965 as part of the War on Poverty. It helped ensure that children from low-income families are prepared for school. This program helps thousands of Nevada students each year, and now the Trump administration is looking to gut the program because they believe a parent’s income should determine the quality of a student’s education.

While Nevadans are struggling with rising prices and some of the highest grocery prices in the nation, Lombardo’s solution is “I can’t control that.” Nevadans put their trust in Lombardo, and this is his best solution. It’s time to vote Aaron Ford for governor on November 3rd.

Nevada legislators are advancing a bill to keep armed federal agents out of polling places, and more in this week’s roundup.

The State Legislature’s Joint Interim Committee has advanced a bill for the 2027 session that will make it illegal under state law for armed federal agents to be near polling locations. This was already illegal under federal law; we simply cannot depend on Donald Trump to actually follow it.

A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration cannot detain immigrants while their immigration proceedings are ongoing. This is a big win for due process and the rule of law.

For 61 years, Medicaid and Medicare have been a lifeline for seniors and low-income people. The “Big Beautiful Bill” is expected to remove 70,000 Nevadans from Medicaid and impact benefits for as many as 280,000. If Republicans are in control of Congress next year, we should expect even more cuts, and we can’t let that happen.

After the seven states in the Colorado River Compact, including Nevada, failed to come to an agreement, the federal government created a new water plan requiring Nevada, Arizona, and California to cut their Colorado River usage. The new plan could cost Nevada one-fourth to one-third of our water allotment. Only Nevada and two other states are required to make cuts, while cuts from upper basin states are voluntary. These cuts could have a huge impact on Nevada agriculture.

A new report by Human Rights Watch has labeled the United States a “democracy in decline.” The report cites the Trump administration’s attacks on basic rights, including those needed to maintain a democracy, such as access to voting.

Although this is dire, Nevadans have a big role to play in protecting our democracy. This year, we have a chance to send a Democrat to represent CD2 for the first time, and we can elect local and state-level leaders who will stand up to Trump. Now is the time to get involved.
