One of the most damaging myths about trauma is the belief that struggling means someone is weak.

The reality?

Many of the strongest people you know are silently carrying unimaginable pain while still showing up for work, caring for others, raising families, responding to emergencies, and surviving day by day.

Strength is not the absence of struggle.
Sometimes strength looks like surviving what should have broken you.

You never truly know what someone is carrying behind the smile, the uniform, the silence, or the “I’m fine.” ❤️

When TIP volunteers respond to a scene, they do not arrive empty-handed.

Behind every call is preparation, training, compassion, and carefully chosen resources meant to bring even the smallest measure of comfort during someone’s hardest moments.

A blanket for warmth.
Water for someone in shock.
Tissues for tears.
Stuffed animals for frightened children.
Resource guides for what comes next.
And most importantly — human presence and compassion.

Because crisis response is not just about showing up.
It’s about showing up prepared to care. ❤️

✨ Volunteer Spotlight: Maddie ✨

Maddie joined TIP in October 2025, bringing a compassionate heart and a strong desire to serve her community during some of life’s most difficult moments.

One of Maddie’s favorite parts of being a TIP volunteer is the people. She shares that TIP volunteers are some of the kindest people she has ever met, and knowing she has such a supportive, service-oriented community behind her helps her feel confident going into every call.

For Maddie, one of the most rewarding aspects of volunteering is seeing the impact of simply being present. While TIP volunteers arrive with resources and support, sometimes the greatest gift they offer is creating a space where survivors can express their emotions freely.

Often the full impact of that presence becomes clear during follow-up calls, when survivors share how meaningful it was to have someone there who allowed them to grieve without judgment.

Through her volunteer experience, Maddie says she has learned the true power of presence. It has changed how she approaches relationships in her own life, shifting from trying to “fix” problems to truly listening and validating the feelings of others.

Outside of TIP, Maddie is a pre-medicine student at the University and works as a medical scribe. In her free time she enjoys reading, spending time outdoors with her dog Athena, and participating in the service-based fraternity Alpha Phi Omega.

Her personal reminder in life:
✨ “Get comfortable being uncomfortable.”

For anyone considering volunteering with TIP, Maddie shares this encouragement:
💛 “You don’t need a script or the perfect words. The most impactful thing you can do is simply show up and follow their lead. If you bring a heart and a listening ear, you’re already exactly what they need.”

Thank you, Maddie, for your compassion, your dedication, and the heart you bring to every call.

Most people will never see what happens after the sirens arrive.

The silence.
The shock.
The unanswered questions.
The moments where someone’s entire world changes in an instant.

That is where TIP volunteers step in.

Not with perfect words.
Not with easy answers.
But with compassion, presence, and support when people need it most.

Because no one should have to navigate trauma alone. ❤️

Grief does not follow a schedule.
There is no expiration date on missing someone you love.
No deadline for healing.
No point where your heart suddenly forgets.
Years later, a song can bring tears.
A smell can bring back memories.
A birthday, holiday, or ordinary Tuesday can remind you of someone who should still be here.
That is not failure.
That is love.
Because grief is not about forgetting.
It is about learning how to carry love for someone who is no longer physically present.
If you still miss them years later, be gentle with yourself.
The depth of your grief often reflects the depth of your love. ❤️

In moments of grief and trauma, people may not remember every word that was said.
But they remember:
the officer who stayed a little longer,
the nurse who showed compassion,
the volunteer who sat quietly beside them,
the person who made them feel less alone.

Presence matters more than perfection.

Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer another human being is simply to stay. ❤️

Some calls stay with people forever.

Not because first responders, dispatchers, nurses, or crisis responders are weak…
but because they are human.

Behind every uniform is a person carrying the weight of moments most people will never witness:
the grief,
the fear,
the loss,
the heartbreak.
And yet they continue to show up for others, day after day.

If you are someone carrying memories that still hurt — you are not alone. ❤️

Grief changes people.

It changes the way we see the world, the way we love, the way we carry memories, and sometimes even the way we understand ourselves.

There is no “correct” way to grieve, and no two experiences look exactly the same.
Today, we want to hear from you:

What is one thing grief has taught you? ❤️

Your story may help someone else feel less alone.

The lights go back to normal.
The streets grow quiet.
The scene clears.
But for many first responders, dispatchers, nurses, and crisis responders… the call does not end when the sirens stop.

Some moments stay with people forever.

Not because they are weak.
Because they cared.

Behind every uniform is a human being carrying memories, grief, and experiences most people will never fully understand.

If you are someone who is struggling after the calls, after the chaos, after the adrenaline fades — you are not alone. ❤️ There are many resources available for first responders, including with our friends at the Nevada Peer Support Network.
