The Biggest Little Bulb project lives! This is your leader Debe Fennell, and I'll be your point of contact for the planting event. I've managed these gardens for 10 years and work closely with City Parks and KTMB to help make Reno beautiful. You can help: Saturday Oct. 18 from 9am to noon will see Rotarians and other volunteers planting 1600 tulips along Riverside Drive. To help us bring a hat, water and sunscreen. We;ll supply tools and vests, water and directions. We'll have bags of bulbs to plant along the street...please be aware of traffic on the street.Here's sign-up google form link:

Our program next Monday, May 20, is Ashley Adams. Ashley Adams currently serves as the superintendent of Great Basin National Park, a position she has held since mid-February of 2024. Adams came to Great Basin National Park after serving as the deputy superintendent of Nez Perce National Historical Park, Whitman Mission National Historic Site, and Big Hole National Battlefield in the Pacific Northwest. Adams earned a Master of Environmental Management degree from Duke University, where she was selected for a prestigious Doris Duke Conservation Fellows scholarship, and a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from Stanford University.

Our program next Monday, May 6, is Christina Schlosser, speaking about Life IN a Cabaret: Backstage Confidential. Christina moved to Reno in 1974 and went to work at Harrah’s, where she worked on the stage crew for sixteen years. Christina will be sharing some of her memories of celebrities and the interesting people she met along the way at Harrah’s.

Our program next Monday, April 29, is Mayor Ed Lawson. Ed Lawson was appointed as the 26th Mayor of Sparks on September 14, 2020, after the passing of Mayor Ron Smith. He was elected and sworn in as Mayor in November of 2022. He served on the Sparks City Council since 2010, was reelected in 2014 and 2018, and was elected Mayor Pro Tempore in November 2018.

Our program next Monday, April 22, is Lacy J. Dalton. Lacy J. Dalton is an American alt-country singer and songwriter with a career that has spanned many decades and touched the hearts of millions of music fans. Listen to a Lacy J Dalton album for yourself and feel the authenticity in her delivery. In addition to her musical career, Lacy has been involved in various service projects through several charitable organizations – namely, the Let ‘em Run Foundation which she co-founded, William James Associates Arts in Corrections, and Rotary International. Lacy J Dalton will talk about her connection to Rotary Club of Reno and will present some information on the situation with the wild horses along with some alternative ideas on how to deal with the issue.

Our program next Monday, April 15, is the Achievement Beyond Obstacles Scholarship Program. Achievement Beyond Obstacles is a joint youth program with four Area 8 Rotary Clubs. High School counselors and Principals select seniors who are on track to graduate despite enormous challenges in their life. In this program, students spend a Leadership Weekend with professional coaches Dean and Rochelle Whellams, receive financial aid education and college mentoring, guidance to help them with their next step in life, and have the opportunity for a college or trade school scholarship. Every student who attended Leadership Weekend is invited to attend a Rotary meeting and bring a guest. We will hear a 3-minute presentation from them about their journey and what their plans are post high school.

Local Rotarians from various clubs, including President David Spillers and Kim Mazeres from our club, joined a Rotary Means Business event at High Sierra Industries and Northern Nevada RAVE Family Foundation to help RAVE clean up after their recent move. We filled several HUGE containers like the one shown with dozens of boxes worth of materials that needed to be sorted in order to be shredded.
