While conducting speed enforcement on a WCSO e-bike in Incline Village this afternoon, one of our deputies stopped a driver for speeding on Lakeshore Boulevard.

Following an on-scene investigation, Donna Stafford, 62, was arrested for driving under the influence and having an open alcohol container in a vehicle.

Driving under the influence puts everyone on our roadways at risk, including motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Impairment behind the wheel is a choice that can have serious consequences. Our deputies will continue working to identify and stop impaired drivers before those consequences become a tragedy.

As we head into the summer season, Washoe County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue is sharing an important water safety reminder.

While air temperatures may be warming up, water temperatures throughout our region remain extremely cold and can create dangerous conditions for even experienced recreationists.

If you plan to enjoy our rivers, lakes, and waterways this summer, wear a life jacket and always recreate responsibly. Avoid swimming or boating while impaired, and use extra caution around areas with strong currents, high water flow, and fast-moving water.

Stay safe and enjoy all the incredible water recreation opportunities Northern Nevada has to offer.

Today, we had the privilege of recognizing two retiring members of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue (WCSAR) team.

Roger Cunha dedicated 17 years of volunteer service to WCSAR. Drawing on his experience as a trained firefighter, Roger assisted in challenging water and urban rescue environments, supported fire evacuations, and served as a valued mentor to countless team members throughout his tenure.

For the past 8 years, Deanna Baxman has been a dedicated member of our WCSAR team. Throughout her time on the team, she shared her experience from a career in the firefighting profession, helping educate fellow volunteers and enhancing team safety during responses in hazardous environments.

“Today’s retirements represent more than two decades of volunteer service to the citizens of Washoe County,” said Sheriff Darin Balaam. “Thank you both for sharing your experience, dedication, and countless hours of service to help keep our community safe.”

We wish Roger and Deanna all the best in their future endeavors and appreciate their years of dedicated service to WCSAR and our community.

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Press Conference: Sheriff Darin Balaam Provides Update on Anna Scott Homicide

Today marked a significant development in the Anna Scott homicide investigation as Delshay Astor was arraigned in federal court on charges of second-degree murder in connection with her 2022 death.

This investigation began on February 3, 2022, after Anna Scott was located deceased inside a burning vehicle on I-580. Her death was later ruled a homicide, and detectives with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Throughout this investigation, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives have worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the United States Attorney’s Office to advance this case. Today’s arraignment marks a significant milestone in that effort.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation related to an initial report of individuals shooting in a congested area of Sun Valley.

Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle associated with the call. One subject exited the vehicle, fled on foot, and was subsequently taken into custody.

RAVEN maintained aerial observation of the vehicle, which was ultimately stopped on the southbound Golden Valley on-ramp, where an additional suspect was taken into custody.
