We broke ground!

Monday marked an important milestone for the Advanced Purified Water Facility as TMWA, the City of Reno and our OneWater Nevada partners gathered with elected officials, community leaders, project partners and staff to celebrate the beginning of construction.

The groundbreaking was a tremendous success, and we’re grateful to everyone who joined us to mark the occasion. Special thanks to our speakers and elected officials, as well as the staff members, consultants and contractors whose hard work made both the event, and this important project, possible.

The Advanced Purified Water Facility represents years of planning, collaboration and innovation. When complete, it will create a new, locally controlled water resource and help strengthen the resilience and reliability of our region’s water supply.

Monday gave us an opportunity to celebrate how far we’ve come, and, appropriately enough, to pick up a few shovels and begin the work ahead.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such an enjoyable and memorable one.

We appreciate the Tahoe-Pyramid Trail for helping spread the word about the upcoming temporary trail closure between the Quilici Ranch Road trailhead and Fleish Bridge. This trail section, which is made possible through a land easement provided by TMWA, is also the only access to the Fleish Hydroelectric Facility, which is 100+ years old and will be undergoing capital improvements. To protect public safety and allow construction crews to operate efficiently, the closure will begin in September and continue until Spring 2027.

A reminder that the trail from Quilici Ranch Road trailhead to Fleish Bridge will be closed starting in September. Here is the sign from Truckee Meadows Water Authority.
Please keep in mind that this will affect thru-hikers and bikers who plan to use that section to reach their destination.
