Congratulations to our Silver Paw winner, Katherine Gabrie! 🎉

Katherine is a 4th-year doctoral graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno studying Cell and Molecular Biology in the Molecular Biosciences program. As a graduate researcher studying the impact of the gut microbiome on human health, she is also a passionate advocate for inclusive mentorship in STEM. As a first-generation immigrant, Katherine is dedicated to supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds as they pursue scientific careers.
Through her work and leadership, she:
✨ Conducts research focused on the relationship between the gut microbiome and human health.
✨ Mentors students through the Honors College Career and Community Mentorship Program.
✨ Supports local K–12 outreach efforts by helping students develop research ideas and navigate academic and professional pathways.
✨ Advocates for a more inclusive, supportive, and accessible scientific community for future generations in STEM.

Congratulations to our Silver Paw winner, Muna Emesobum! 🎉

Muna recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology. Throughout his time at UNR, he demonstrated a strong commitment to mental health equity and community well-being, driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to compassionate, stigma-free support. Through his advocacy and service, he continuously amplified the voices of those too often unheard. Through his work and leadership, he:
✨ Contributed to statewide public health efforts with the Larson Institute, supporting perinatal behavioral health initiatives and presenting to policymakers.
✨ Supported mental health access and destigmatization on campus through his work with Counseling Services.
✨ Volunteered with organizations like the Nevada Health Authority and NAMI to expand community outreach and education.
✨ Served as a Graduate Student Association Council representative, advocating for graduate student voices and success.

Lexali graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in Spring 2026 with a degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology. As a future speech-language pathologist, she is passionate about helping individuals access communication methods that best fit their needs and advocating for inclusive support systems for all.
Through her leadership and involvement, she:
✨ Served as President of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association, helping connect students with the communities they may one day serve.
✨ Holds a leadership role as Diversity and Inclusion Officer, promoting inclusive and supportive spaces on campus.

Japan Pack is a registered student organization at the University of Nevada, Reno dedicated to promoting Japanese culture, language, and intercultural engagement. Founded in 2025, the organization creates welcoming spaces for students, faculty, staff, and community members through cultural events, educational programming, and collaborative activities. 
Through their work and engagement, they: 
✨ Promote Japanese culture, language, and intercultural exchange across the UNR community.
