We are the Young Democratic Socialists of Northern Nevada (YDS), a youth chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) operating at the University of Nevada, Reno. We were founded in the Fall of 2017 in the wake of the events in Charlottesville, by a group of like minded students and concerned citizens. We have come together to fight against capitalism and other oppressive systems in our c

ommunity and our country. Our mission statement is as follows: "The YDSA’s mission is to educate and organize students and young people in the Reno community, and to play a helpful and principled role in the movement for social justice. Within and throughout this struggle, we will articulate and defend the idea that true diversity, tolerance, and equality is impossible under capitalism. We seek social change which extends democracy into all aspects of life ‐ social, political, and economic. Our vision of socialism is profoundly democratic and intersectional, and seeks to address inequality in matters of class, race, ethnicity, gender, ability, and orientation."
