Sharing great work done by the WCSD 🙌🏽😇

The Parent Teacher Home Visits (PTHV) program demonstrates both strong quantitative outcomes and meaningful qualitative impact.

Quantitative Data (Measured Numbers)

The measurable data reflects broad engagement and significant outreach across the district:

* 44 schools participated
* 463 educators engaged
* 1,280 families reached
* 1,601 students supported
* 1,815 total home visits conducted
* 3 hours of professional learning provided focused on high-impact family engagement

From an analytical standpoint:

* The program averaged approximately 41 home visits per participating school
* Roughly 1.4 visits per family
* Nearly 4 students impacted per participating educator

These numbers show district-wide scale, sustained participation, and repeated engagement with families rather than one-time contact.

Qualitative Data (Observed Impact)

The qualitative side measures the human outcomes that are harder to quantify but critically important in education:

* Improved trust between families and schools
* Increased parent comfort communicating with educators
* Stronger relationships with students outside the classroom setting
* Greater cultural understanding and empathy
* Enhanced sense of belonging for families
* Increased educator awareness of student home environments and barriers
* Positive school climate and community connection
* Family engagement becoming proactive rather than reactive

The inclusion of professional learning around family engagement also suggests the district is focusing not just on participation numbers, but on improving the quality and consistency of interactions.

Overall Assessment

The quantitative data demonstrates scale, participation, and operational success. The qualitative data reflects relationship-building, trust, and long-term cultural impact within schools and communities.

Together, the data suggests PTHV is not simply an outreach activity, but a relationship-centered engagement strategy that strengthens the connection between schools, students, and families across Washoe County School District.

In my role with the Nevada Department of Veterans Services, I continue to witness the deep respect our communities have for our veterans and their families. Events like this demonstrate the strength of that commitment and ensure that the legacy of our fallen heroes is never forgotten.

To all who volunteered, participated, and took time to honor our nation’s heroes today thank you!

Your presence matters, and your actions help carry forward the spirit of remembrance for future generations.

May we always honor the sacrifice, preserve the memory, and never forget 🇺🇸

Today I had the opportunity to visit and learn more about the Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) Program at TMCC alongside Amy Stephenson, Julie Dudley, and their outstanding staff.

Veterans Upward Bound is a free program dedicated to helping veterans transition into higher education and vocational pathways while maximizing their education benefits. The program provides valuable resources including tutoring support, college preparation assistance, and access to a full computer lab to help veterans succeed at any age and at any stage of their educational journey.

Thank you to Amy, Julie, and the entire VUB team for the warm welcome and for the important work you are doing to support our veteran community here in Nevada. Your commitment to service, education, and opportunity truly makes a difference.

Veterans Upward Bound will also be hosting upcoming Open House events at the TMCC Meadowood Campus this June for veterans interested in learning more about the program and available services.

I had the opportunity to attend Alyce Taylor Elementary School’s production of Disney’s The Lion King Kids, and I was truly impressed by the talent, confidence, and teamwork displayed by our students.

The school was only 1 of 70 schools to receive this grant opportunity!

From the performers on stage to the backstage crew, educators, volunteers, and families who helped make this production possible, it was clear how much hard work and dedication went into tonight’s event. The school was packed with families and community members supporting our students, and the energy throughout the evening reflected the strong pride and connection within the Alyce Taylor community.

Special recognition to the production team, including Sylvia Wilson, Katie Lamaestra, Debbie Annand, Tracey Tresley, Samantha Keyes, Whitney Dix, the backstage crew, sound team, volunteers, donors, and everyone who invested countless hours into making this production a success. If I missed anyone or misspelled a name I do apologize.

Productions like this do more than entertain they help students build confidence, creativity, leadership, communication skills, and teamwork. These experiences matter and create memories students will carry with them for years to come. And those students “knew their lines”!

As a WCSD Trustee, it is always encouraging to see our schools creating opportunities where students can shine both inside and outside the classroom.

Congratulations to all of the students and staff involved tonight. Great job, Alyce Taylor Gators!

Today I was honored to be in the presence of, attend the training with, and help present awards alongside my fellow WCSD trustees to our magnificent educators during the WCSD Parent Teacher Home Visits Conference.

Recognizing 52 dedicated educators for completing 20 or more home visits this school year was a powerful reminder that education is built on relationships, trust, and partnership with families.

Thank you to all of our teachers, counselors, administrators, and FACE Liaisons who continue to go above and beyond for our students, families, and communities. Your commitment truly makes a difference.

Thank you to the Nevada Faculty Alliance (NFA) for the invitation to attend tonight’s candidate meet and greet at Craft in Reno.

I especially want to thank Amy Pason for the invitation, the conversation, and for helping organize an event that brought together educators, community members, and local candidates for meaningful discussion about education, workforce development, and the future of our community.

I appreciated the opportunity to listen, engage, and hear different perspectives throughout the evening. One thing I shared tonight is that the real heroes in education are our educators — the frontline connectors to our students, families, and communities.

Thank you to everyone who attended tonight and to all of the candidates who took the time to speak, engage, and participate in the conversation.

“One last sunset. A lifetime of memories.”

Old Stead Elementary has been home to generations of High Flyers, filled with learning, laughter, friendships, and community. While we look ahead to an exciting new chapter, we also honor the memories and people who made this school so special.

Thank you, Old Stead.
