🌿Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Laird’s Landing - clean up event! 🌳
The W**d Control Board led the invasive management at the event and WOW!
Volunteers and staff tackled Invasive bush honeysuckle and white mulberry.
Just look at that brush pile!!
Shay will head back out once rain passes to do a herbicide application to make sure our hard work does not grow back.
Check out the Jasper County Soil & Water Conservation District to see the native planting that also took place during this event!

Don't let its beautiful purple flowers fool you—Purple Loosestrife is an invasive plant that can quickly dominate wetlands, leaving little room for the native plants that birds, pollinators, turtles, frogs, and other wildlife depend on.

Pretty purple flowers taking over your property? It might not be the groundcover you think it is.

Crown vetch (Securigera varia) was once widely planted for erosion control, but many homeowners are now discovering that this fast-spreading plant can create a much bigger problem than it solves. It spreads aggressively by both seeds and underground roots, allowing it to quickly take over roadsides, field edges, and natural areas.

Once established, crown vetch forms dense mats that crowd out native wildflowers and the pollinators that depend on them. The good news? Early detection makes management much easier. If you spot crown vetch on your property, addressing it before it spreads can save you time, money, and frustration down the road.

Ever grabbed a w**d bare-handed and instantly regretted it?

This week's Invasive Plant of the Week is bull thistle, a spiny invader that can quickly take over roadsides, pastures, fields, and neglected corners of your yard. While its purple flowers may look attractive, bull thistle spreads aggressively, crowds out native plants, and can produce thousands of seeds from a single plant. Livestock will not eat it, so it has an even bigger advantage over our native plants.

The good news? Learning to identify bull thistle early can help prevent a small problem from turning into a much bigger one. Check out our graphic to learn what to look for.
