🚨 E-Bike Safety & NYS Law Reminder 🚨

Over the past several months, our officers have been stopping individuals operating e-bikes and taking the opportunity to educate riders about New York State’s e-bike and e-scooter laws.

While we will continue to focus on education and voluntary compliance, we continue to observe e-bikes being operated in violation of NYS law. We are asking all adult riders, as well as parents and guardians of younger riders, to familiarize themselves with the applicable laws and safety requirements.

Please be aware that individuals under 16 years of age are prohibited from operating an e-bike in New York State. Additionally, under certain circumstances, a parent or guardian may be issued a summons when a violation by a rider under 16 occurs in their presence. (NYSenate.gov⁠)

Our goal is to keep our community safe while ensuring that riders and motorists alike understand the rules of the road. We will continue to emphasize education, but continued or serious violations may result in enforcement action.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and commitment to keeping our roads and community safe.

Yesterday members of our dispatch, drone team and canine team attended the VFW for their community day. Officers handed out popcorn and provided a drone and canine demonstration.

We here at East Greenbush Police thank you for your 31 years of service to Rensselaer County and 4 years here at East Greenbush PD. Your retirement is well deserved!

Thirty years. Thousands of calls. Countless lives impacted.

This morning, Communications Officer Stephen Lohnes (Dispatcher #27) signed off the radio for the final time after nearly 31 years of dedicated service to the Rensselaer County Bureau of Public Safety.

Today we had the privilege of giving Steve the sendoff he earned. As he walked out of the 911 Center for the last time, he did so with the respect and appreciation of everyone whose careers and lives he touched.

Thank you, Steve, for your decades of service to the residents of Rensselaer County. We wish you a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement!
