Did you know that June 1st through 7th is National CPR and AED Awareness Week? Statistics show that when a person suffers a cardiac arrest, every minute they go without intervention—such as CPR or an AED—reduces their chance of survival by as much as 10%. Minutes matter!
You can help by learning CPR and how to properly use an AED. The Renton Regional Fire Authority was a founding member of South King County CPR & First Aid, and offers free, uncertified classes several times a year. Private classes for businesses and groups of 10+ attendees are also available for a fee. Click the link below for more information:

Prevent outdoor fires by practicing recreational fire safety. We receive several calls each year regarding recreational fires. Recreational fires are cooking fires and charcoal barbecues, campfires and bonfires in designated areas or on private property used for cooking, pleasure or ceremonial purposes.

Memorial Day is on Monday, May 25. This holiday often marks the unofficial start to summer and the grilling season! If you’re going to be firing up the grill this holiday weekend, follow the tips below to stay safe and avoid grilling mishaps:
Read the owner’s manual and follow all assembly guidelines and safety procedures.
- Only use barbecue grills outdoors and in an open space. Never use grills indoors or in an enclosed space as active grills create carbon monoxide—a toxic gas.
- Set up your grill on a flat, stable surface that is located at least 10 feet away from your home and other combustible materials.
- Use the proper tools when grilling, including long-handled barbecue utensils and flame-resistant mitts or gloves.
- Never leave the grill unattended while in use. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the grill at all times.
- Keep your grill clean by removing the buildup of grease and other food residues.

HAPPY EMS WEEK!! 🎉 May 17-23 is National EMS Week, which honors the dedicated EMTs, paramedics, dispatchers, and first responders who provide lifesaving EMS care.

Did you know that every Renton firefighter is a certified EMT? This week, especially, our organization wants to share our gratitude for the critical EMS work our firefighters do every day. We may be the Fire Service, but over 75% of our calls are for emergency medical services! Here to shed some light on this year's EMS Week and share our thanks, is Deputy Chief of EMS, Dan Alexander.

Sunny days on the water are quickly approaching. Make sure safety is part of your plan this summer.
Before you head out:
- Always wear a life jacket (and make sure it fits properly)
- Keep a close eye on kids—designate a “water watcher”
- Never boat under the influence
- Check the weather and water conditions before you go
- Make sure you have life jackets for everyone on board
A fun day on the water starts with being prepared. Stay safe and enjoy your time outside

Did you know that May 16 thru 22 is National Boating Safety Week? This annual event is organized by the National Safe Boating Council and other organizations like the United States Coast Guard and is designed to spread awareness and encourage safe boating practices and regulations. Life jackets are the most essential element of boat safety. It is recommended that you always wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. In fact, by law, all children 12 years old or younger are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket when on a moving boat or vessel less than 19 feet in length—unless they are in a fully enclosed area (e.g., below deck or in an enclosed cabin). Remember that air-filled devices and foam toys like “water wings” or “pool noodles” are not suitable replacements for a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

We are having an incredible time at Scout Night 2026! Attendees got to see what happens at the fire house when an emergency call comes in, as E314 headed out a few moments ago to serve someone in need. Dont worry, we have plenty of firefighters here to make sure Scouts get to learn everything the event has to offer. 👨‍🚒

If you registered for Scout Night, there is still one more hour of fun to go! 🥳
