Sound Transit is currently building the new Renton Transit Center and several long-term sidewalk closures have begun along South Grady Way and Rainier Avenue South.

Pedestrians should be aware of the following 24/7 sidewalk closures expected to last through August 2027.

- North sidewalk on S. Grady Way from Lake Ave. S. to Rainer Ave S.
- East sidewalk on the east side Rainier Ave. S. between S. Grady Way and S. 7th St.

The Mid Sound Fisheries Community Action School is looking for residents of the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed (that could be you!) who want to join the upcoming Community Action Training School.

This free continuing education program will guide participants through a series of classes and field experiences, focusing on scientific, social, cultural, and political issues important to watershed health and salmon recovery.

No prior experience or background in course topics is necessary. The program will run from September 30 through November 14, 2026.

In Renton, residents north of the Cedar River and some residents south may be part of the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed. Find your Watershed Resource Inventory Areas on their website.

Mayor Armondo Pavone recently hosted students from Renton’s Sister City in Nishiwaki, Japan (西脇市) as part of the with the Nishiwaki-Renton Middle School Cultural Exchange Program. At Renton City Hall, Mayor Pavone shared about Renton’s history and answered the student’s questions.

Renton and Nishiwaki Sister City relationship began in 1969 with the annual middle school exchange beginning in 1987. After a pause in the exchange during the 2020 Pandemic Renton School District and Nishiwaki Board of Education were pleased to resume the exchange program two years ago.

The Nishiwaki students and their chaperons spent a full week in Renton. As traditional with the exchanges, students stayed with host families, explored the host city and the surrounding region, and immersed themselves in a unique cultural experience!

The Renton Middle School exchange cohort will visit Nishiwaki this fall.
