Saturday, June 6th is ๐™‰๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ก ๐™Ž๐™š๐™˜๐™ช๐™ง๐™š ๐™”๐™ค๐™ช๐™ง ๐™‡๐™ค๐™–๐™™ ๐˜ฟ๐™–๐™ฎ, focusing on road safety and preventing debris-related crashes.

Yesterday, our officers partnered with King County Transfer Station in efforts to look for unsecured or improperly secured loads, provide education, and issue warnings or citations when necessary.

Remember, securing your load isnโ€™t just about following the law - it helps keep everyone safe on the road, and it's something we'll focus on every day, not just today or during this month's campaign.

Donโ€™t Make These Mistakes:
โ€œBut Iโ€™m just going a short way and I wonโ€™t be driving fast.โ€ - The law is clear - every vehicle carrying a load while traveling on any publicly maintained road must have a secured load.

โ€œBut what Iโ€™m hauling is so heavy it couldnโ€™t possibly fall out.โ€ - Each year, heavy items such as large tires, appliances, and large pieces of wood fall from vehicles and end up on our roadways creating hazards for motorists.

๐Ÿšจ Attention Drone Operators ๐Ÿšจ
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued temporary flight restrictions for drones in two areas of Renton from June 1 through July 21 in connection with FIFA World Cup activities in the region.
As a safety measure, the FAA has established restricted airspace within a one-mile radius of:
โœˆ๏ธ Boeing facilities and The Landing
โšฝ The Seattle Sounders FC Center at Longacres
The City of Renton will serve as a base camp for the Belgian national team beginning next week, with practices taking place at the Sounders facility.
Drone operators should be aware of these restrictions and plan flights accordingly. Always check current FAA restrictions before flying.
For the latest airspace information, visit the FAAโ€™s drone resources and flight restriction maps. https://tfr.faa.gov/tfr3/?page=detail_6_4033

Renton PD Welcomes World Cup & Belgian Red Devils!

The Belgian Red Devils โšฝ๏ธteam is coming to Renton for the FIFA World Cup 2026! Beginning on Monday, June 8, Renton becomes the base camp for the Red Devils, and we're providing security at their hotel and the Sounders FC Center at Longacres, plus escorting the team between sites.

For over a year, RPD has been planning, preparing, and getting ready to make this event a safe and unforgettable experience for everyone.

We'll also have security at Legacy Square (S Third St & Logan Ave) for all the soccer celebrations happening right here in our city.

With 12+ security posts to staff daily, some neighboring agencies will be lending a hand, but Renton PD officers will always answer your calls for service.

Best part? No taxpayer money is being used for FIFA security functions. It's all covered by a FIFA grant.

Renton Police detectives have arrested Derek Nelson, a former youth pastor at Highlands Community Church, on suspicion of second-degree child molestation and first-degree voyeurism, both felonies.
Nelson was taken into custody on Wednesday evening as he left work and was booked into the Thurston County Jail. According to the victims, both incidents took place during church functions in Thurston County. The molestation charge involves an incident in April 2015 when the victim was 13 years old. The voyeurism charge stems from a separate incident in February 2019 when the victim was 17 years old.
Detectives believe there may be additional victims. If you have information related to this case, please contact Det. Scott Barfield at [email protected].

Vehicular homicide suspect in custody

22-year-old Robert Trevino was booked into jail overnight on charges of Vehicular Homicide and Assault in connection with the death of a 20-year-old woman who was a passenger in his car.

Charging documents claim Trevino was driving while under the influence of drugs at a high rate of speed in the 2200 block of NE 3rd St. on December 19, 2023. Trevino lost control of his car and hit a school bus. The victim died at the scene.

Trevino was taken into custody immediately following the collision but was released while investigators awaited toxicology results, which took about two years to process.

He is currently being held on $100,000 bail.

Our thoughts remain with the victim's family and loved ones as this case moves forward through the court system.

Violent Crime Unit captures convicted felon

A 24-year-old fugitive is in jail after Rentonโ€™s Violent Crime Unit (VCU) partnered with Grant County Sheriff's Office - WA Crime Reduction Team and arrested him in Coulee City Tuesday afternoon.

Benito Uriostegui was convicted of Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, DV Malicious Mischief, Attempted DV Residential Burglary, and a DV No Contact Order violation stemming from a May 2022 incident in Renton. Uriostegui failed to appear for his sentencing hearing, where he faced four years in prison.

Renton's VCU located Uriostegui in Coulee City, Washington, and traveled there to take him into custody, a reminder that our officers will pursue fugitives anywhere they go. Upon approach, Uriostegui attempted to flee, but Grant County K9 Storm was waiting for him, and he quickly surrendered without further incident.
Special thanks to the Grant County Sheriff's Office and K9 Storm for their partnership in making this arrest possible. The Renton Violent Crime Unit remains committed to holding offenders accountable and keeping our community safe.
