You can now see the mural at the Renton Library.

Here's a photo of the artists and people who came to celebrate the unveiling of the final mural and honor rivers, our ancestors, and water defenders.

This mural was created to honor the Cedar River, rivers around the world, and the people who have dedicated their lives to protecting Indigenous communities and waterways:

Berta Cáceres (Lenca)
Billy Frank Jr. (Nisqually)
Ramona Bennett (Puyallup)
Thomas Bailey (Suquamish)

Artists:

Jack Brown (Yakama, Puyallup)
Wesley Carrasco (Lenca)
Juan Rubio (Lenca)
Kennedy Stone (Grand Portage Band Chippewa)
Parker Sullivan (Suquamish, Tsimshian).**

This project was made possible with support from the Renton Municipal Arts Commission, Center for American Indian and Indigenous Studies at the University of Washington, and the Renton Library

Join us this Saturday, October 25th from 12–3 PM at the Renton Public Library for a special celebration of the Cedar River and Indigenous history! We’ll be unveiling the completed community mural, created in collaboration with UW students and community members.

Earlier this month, we revealed the first panel and walked together along the river for inspiration. Now, come see how those reflections and contributions came to life in the final mural.

Let’s gather in honor of the rivers that shape our landscapes, carry our histories, and connect our communities.
