The Pawnee Nation was the dominant power of the central plains for hundreds of years. This museum tells the story of a Pawnee village that may have existed as early as 1770. The most remarkable feature is the museum’s centerpiece – the excavated floor of a large Pawnee earth lodge. Feel the spirits of the past while walking the perimeter of the lodge and view the rare sacred bundle that hangs abov

e the altar. After touring the museum, walk the interpretive trail that winds through the depressions marking other lodges. Learn about the people of the Pawnee Nation and their stories when you visit Pawnee Indian Museum.

Don't forget about the Mountain Man Rendezvous event coming up from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. this Saturday, May 30 at the Pawnee Indian Museum State Historic Site in Republic. Come learn how frontiersmen survived and made a living in the early to mid 1800’s as the American Mountain Men recreate and teach about this important time in American history. While here take in the Pawnee Indian Village Museum to learn how the Pawnee lived during the same time period. The event is free but donations are always welcome!

Bring the family out on Saturday 10 -4 as the American Mountain Men educate young and old alike on how they lived and tools they used. Maybe do some trading of your own. This and the museum are free to the public, donations greatly appreciated.
