This is Joe Pittman. If you know who this is, great! If you don't, he's the Pennsylvania Senate Majority Leader along with the reason data center legislations and other important causes do not pass into law. Think of him as the Mitch McConnell of Pennsylvania governance; the Pennsylvania General Assembly passes a bill, it runs up to the Pennsylvania State Senate, and Pittman stalls it.

Pittman is not shy about where he stands on data center regulations. He doesn't "think we should be looking at individual bills right now." He has stated, “We want to make sure that we're competing against our neighboring states, to make us attractive to responsible development overall.” He is "not entirely sure" that data center transparency can be accomplished through legislation. His actions speak as loud as his words, and almost all data center regulations stall out in the senate.

- HB-1834 creating data center regulatory framework? It's stalled in the senate.
- HB-2151 creating community standards for data center developments? Stalled in the senate.
- HB-2198 eliminating sales tax breaks for data centers? Stalled in the senate.
- HB-2496 creating a six-month pause on data center development? Stalled in the senate.
- SB-1359 creating a 36-month moratorium on hyperscale data center development and permitting? You better believe it's stalled in the senate.

This is just a small list of data center-oriented bills that Pittman has blocked. Other non-data center driven bills that stalled out under Pittman include HB-462 which extended the statute of limitations for childhood assault survivors, HB-2189 which increased the nation-worst minimum wage, and HB-200 which established paid family and medical leave. The list legislation that this man has stymied is very long, and we're worse off because of it.

We have a real chance to move forward with data center legislation along with a heap of other legislation that would improve life in the commonwealth; none of it will happen with Pittman heading up the State Senate. Fortunately, we have a real chance to ensure he doesn't have the power to stall whichever bill he feels like. That will only happen if we flip the state senate.

If you're reading this from the Palisades area, please get out and vote for Mark Pinsley for PA State Senate. Elsewhere, make sure to get out and vote for your local Democratic candidate for state senate. We implore you to look at the damage Pittman has done even if you're not a Democrat. Together we have a huge chance to move Pennsylvania forward in November.

The New York Times recently profiled our very own SD-16 candidate Mark Pinsley for PA State Senate. As Lehigh County Controller, he helped reunite families after parents were suspected of child abuse. The stories from the families are deeply moving. Give it a listen if you have a chance.
