This month, we recognize two important milestones within our Reserve Unit: Reserve Sergeant Mitch Michal’s seven years of dedicated service, and the one-year anniversaries of Reserve Deputy Marshals Alex Miracle and Ty Bartley.

Collectively, these officers have contributed thousands of volunteer hours both day and night in service to our community. Over the past year, they have been responsible for 46 arrests, including nine felony cases. Their efforts have also led to the removal of 13 impaired drivers from our roadways and the seizure of significant quantities of illegal drugs.

We sincerely commend these officers for their commitment to service, ongoing training, and the safety of our community. Congratulations to each of them on reaching these notable milestones!

Today we want to take a moment to recognize one of our most dedicated and courageous partners, our Police K9 Dingo. 🐾

Day in and day out, this incredible dog serves alongside their handler with loyalty, intelligence, and bravery. Whether it’s tracking, searching, protecting, or simply being a comforting presence in tough situations, they give their all without hesitation.

Behind every successful mission is countless hours of training, an unbreakable bond with their handler, and a heart full of determination. We are grateful not only for the work they do but also for the joy and pride they bring to our department and community.

Congratulations Deputy Marshal Ty Bartley on your CIT completion. We know this training will serve you well in your full time role as well as the Departments.

Congratulations to the 30+ officers and first responders who graduated from the 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program this week as part of the Spring 2026 training!

At NAMI West Central Indiana, we are proud to help train, organize, and support the CIT program. This program equips officers and first responders with the skills to recognize signs of mental illness, de-escalate crisis situations, and connect individuals to appropriate care. Instead of defaulting to arrest or incarceration, CIT-trained responders help ensure that people in crisis are treated with dignity and compassion.

We would like to extend our heartfelt sorrow and support for the family and friends of Officer Brian Elliott and the Beech Grove Police Department.

Our hearts are heavy today. Last night, Officer Brian Elliott of the Beech Grove Police Department was murdered in the line of duty- taken from his family, his department and his community.

We mourn with his loved ones. We stand with his brothers and sisters in uniform. We pray for the strength of a community now carrying an unimaginable loss. This calling is not safe. It never has been. Yet men and women still answer it. Men like Brian Elliott.

“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”
And he said, “Here am I. Send me.” — Isaiah 6:8

Duty called and you answered. Rest now, your watch is complete
