We are almost at 200 followers and would like to say thank you!

The preserve is 160 acres of protected land and home to countless animals and plants. As we try to increase our visitors and visibility, we appreciate our followers and look foward to seeing you today!

After a busy weekend, stop by at 3pm and connect with nature while viewing our lupine flowers. We will have free wildflower seed packets available while supplies last.

Exciting things are happening on the preserve! Wood duck babies are emerging out of their nest boxes and pink lady slippers are popping up in the woods.

The star of our walk tomorrow, lupine flowers, are also in bloom. We hope to see you tomorrow at 3 to see the field for yourself!

If you would like to see more of the property, our trail guide Rebecca will be there to show you.

We found something cool while cleaning trails this past week. A turkey dust bath!

Daily dust baths help turkeys with grooming their feathers and parasite control. They often return to favorite spots, creating this dust bowl.

Our focus will be on gorgeous lupine flowers next weekend, but there will be plenty of other flowers to spot.

Currently blooming on the preserve are wild hyacinth, allium, columbine, star flower and p***y toes. The prickly pear cactus might have something to show us, if we are lucky!

It is always a good time to add more flowers!
Preserve owner Jim and trail guide Rebecca spent the afternoon planting wildflowers along the front entrance.
We can't wait to see the beauty they bring this summer!

As we look foward to our next event, let's talk about lupine flowers! These showy flowers bloom in late May to early June and we will set up times to allow guests to walk among our large collection.

Cool lupine facts:

✔️ Michigan native wildflower
✔️ Host plant for the endangered Karner blue butterfly
✔️ Plants can reach a height of 2 feet
✔️ Fire helps lupine by breaking through their tough seed coat
✔️ Lupine help enhance soil quality

We have a tiny front porch sentinel at the visitor center!

Gray tree frogs are masters at blending into their surroundings. They are usually in the trees but also on porches! They have sticky toe pads that help them climb, and this one was likely looking for bugs to eat and enjoying the sun.

Have you been lucky enough to see one in the wild?

We had a perfect fall day for our second visit with the goats of Sandhill Farms! They're hard at work and making excellent progress on our invasive barberry. Thanks to everyone who stopped by!
