It is the time of year when tax statements arrive in mailboxes. I dread it every year even as I am on the "making decisions" side of the desk. Knowing where the money is going is a part of understanding the amount you are paying.

Attention citizens of Rice Lake, Where does your money go? Find below a detailed pie chart illustrating the allocation of property taxes. Ledger is located in the lower right-hand corner. With a total of 62% of that 45% of the chart goes to the school district and 17% goes to the county. The city share is only 36% of your taxes.

I LOVE driving down Main St to check out the new banners every year. We have some talented folks in town.

It is sledding season!!! The only parts I like about winter is sledding, the way the snow sits on trees, and cocoa. Stop at The Milk Pail for some soup or Badger Brew for a warm beverage and head down to Moon Lake Park to enjoy the obnoxious amount of snow we got!

This is what a ❄️ SNOW ❄️ day is all about!! Fun in the fluffy white stuff! The fire is stoked, come on out and enjoy! Reminder: no porta potty yet but it will be here before the weekend.

EXCITING announcement!! The time has come to run again or step aside and allow someone else to run for the seat.

The last year and 9 months have been exciting, complex, full of learning, joyful, and filled with exciting decisions and projects. In that time, the council navigated the sale of land to Johnson Truck Bodies, started the process to rezone lakeshore properties to pave the way for commercial and residential projects, approved street closure requests, shared goals that will benefit citizens, and hired a City Clerk and City Administrator, heard from citizens about what matters to you, and so much more.

I have learned an immeasurable amount about how our city departments operate and what they need to provide top-notch services to citizens and visitors alike. I wrote a policy for donations so the process is streamlined for department heads, built relationships with citizens, and held a seat on the Finance Committee, Cable Commission, and Airport Committee. Two of which have some really exciting things launching that I would like to continue to be a part of. For all of these reasons and more, I am thrilled to run to remain in the seat for two more years!!

Winter is always our slow season, but this year has been especially quiet… and I want to be honest with you all. If things don’t pick up a bit over the next couple of months, we may have to make some really hard decisions — including the possibility of closing our doors for the winter.
We LOVE being part of this community. We love serving you, seeing your families grow, watching your kids pick out their favorite treats, and sharing the small moments that make this place special. We want to keep doing that. We just need a little more support to make it through the winter.
If you’re able, stop in for a treat, bring a friend, grab a gift card, or simply share this post so others see it. Every little bit truly helps more than you know.
Thank you for being part of our story — and we’re hoping we can keep writing it with you. ❤️
