This past weekend, our OST took our candidates for a quick walk in the woods. Each candidate was instructed to pack 35-50 pounds of weight in their pack. This hike was a short 4 mile familiarization hike so that our Officer Selection Officer, Captain Glatt, could get a feel for the strength of our candidates on hikes. This was also used to get the candidates familiar with the United States Marine Corps load bearing equipment. We had our OCS graduates, 2ndLt Matthew Pinaud, Ryan Grambow, Bala Selvam, and Jack Newton, give a little talk about each of their experiences at OCS to give the other candidates insight for what to expect when they eventually get there. Great job to everyone that attended. Semper Fi

We had an amazing turnout at our weekly Thursday morning pool workout. 15 motivated individuals showed up an hour and a half before the sun came up to get smoked by our workout. This mornings workout was courtesy of our candidate pool leader, Ryan Grambow. The workout started with a half mile dynamic warm up (at a very motivating pace), led by 2ndLt Pinaud. Lt Pinaud have a brief introduction to the new attendees and then handed the pool over to Ryan Grambow to brief and execute the workout. The goal of the workout was to get 10 minutes consecutive of a static squat at quad parallel. When they could no longer hold the squat, they would run a half mile, then get right back into the squat when they returned. The goal of this workout was to introduce large amounts of lactic acid into the muscles and then run to force it out of the muscles, effectively increasing the lactate threshold. After the 30 minute time cap, the attendees would then do 10 minutes of 10 push ups, max time hold of push up position plank, then 20 air squats. Lt Pinaud finished off the workout with a stretching session. Great work and a lot of motivation this morning. Semper Fi

Our OST took a drive out to Longview this past Sunday to show the LeTourneau University Men’s Soccer team how the Marines workout. We wanted to give them a challenge in order to build their leadership and unit cohesion. We split up the team into 7 fire teams, with 5 members per fire team. We began with a small introduction to the workouts they would see through the evolution, then we rolled into a dynamic warm up on line. Directly following the warm up, we put the entire team through a MARSOC short card. We then moved out to the soccer fields to conduct a relay style modified Combat Fitness Test. The first portion was the 880m sprint. While each person was running, the rest of the fire team would be doing a workout to put their total body muscular endurance to the test, those workouts consisted of squats, lunges, bicycles, planks, and Superman static hold. The FT leaders would keep track of the time it took the entire FT to finish. From there they moved to ammo can presses. They were trying to get the max amount of ammo can presses in 5 minutes between the FT, the FT leader would keep track of the score. Lastly, the FT did a relay style Maneuver Under Fire for time. After the CFT, 2ndLt Pinaud took the entire team inside to finish up the workout with a recovery static stretching routine while Capt Glatt gave a speech on leadership to the team. The team closed out the day by doing a prayer for the team and our OST. A special thanks goes out to our candidate pool leader Ryan Grambow for helping out, and to the LeTourneau University Men’s Soccer Team for having us out.

We had a great turnout at our Sunday Evening workout. This week we had a surprise pool wide PFT. We started out with a dynamic warm up that was run by our OSO Capt Glatt. From there we moved into the strength portion of the PFT which consists of a max set of pull ups and a max set of crunches in 2 minutes, after that we moved into the 3 mile run portion. To finish off the evening workout, 2ndLt Pinaud led the candidates through a stretching routine, while Capt Glatt and himself spoke to the candidates about the importance of training, nutrition, and recovery.

We just finished up our Thursday morning workout. Our candidates showed up at 0530, about an hour before the sun came up. We started out with a half mile dynamic warm up followed by a short rest and workout brief. Today’s workout was an anaerobic focused buddy workout which consisted of 20 rounds total of 50m sprint, 10 jump squats, 10 burpees with a jump over a bucket, 10 jump squats, and then a 50m sprint back to the line. The amount of rest time was entirely reliant on how fast or slow your partner finished his set. We finished up the workout with a quick workout debrief given by our candidate pool leader, Ryan Grambow, and a stretching routine led by 2ndLt Pinaud. I was impressed by the effort put out by our candidates and the motivation they gave to their peers. Semper Fi and great job today gentlemen.

Last night was our weekly Sunday Evening workout. We had a great turnout and an even better workout. We started with our dynamic warm up and a half mile run to get the muscles warm and ready to work. The workout itself consisted of 3 sets of 800m and 5 rounds of strength workouts in between. The 800m runs were 100m splits of running then a transition to a backwards run, then a transition back and so forth. The strength portion, which took place between the 800m runs, consisted of 5 separate body weight strength workouts, 45 seconds on with 15 seconds of rest until the start of the next. Everybody showed up motivated and ready to do work. They know where they want to be and they won’t stop until they get there. Semper Fi

This morning we held our weekly Thursday morning pool workout. Our future Marine Officer attendees endured 2 rounds of 200+ reps of squats, lunges, and squat jumps, followed by 2 rounds of 170+ reps of pushups, triceps dips, and burpees. The punishment for not completing your assigned reps in the allotted time was to finish out your reps with Thai burpees during the rest preiod. All of this was done with minimal rest time in an effort improve their full body muscular endurance in order to stay up to par with the training style and intensity level they will face at Officer Candidates School. Watching the sun rise as they cool down is just one of the benefit these motivated young men get when they come out to our workouts.

Take A Knee Throughout history when we “took a knee”... and privately prayed to our God above It was an act of reverence and devotion... a simple act of respect and love. But as with anything there is a time... and a place for us to “take a knee”... out of respect for those around us... it wasn’t done for all to see. When we pray...it’s a personal thing... a simple hello to our God on high taking others into account... who don’t always see it like you and I. So these protesters now who kneel to say... that they are unhappy about their plight are choosing the wrong time and place... to convince the world that they are right. Before each game when we stand to honor... this wonderful country of freedoms and rights for those few moments...just let us remember... the men and women who bravely fight To keep this country strong and free... for those few moments let there be peace The National Anthem represents freedom... the freedom for all to think as they please. The eighties made us stop and look... at things we had always simply accepted... we finally started demanding answers... to things that seemed a little bit strange. The nineties gave us a chance to rebuild... the things the eighties had so affected we had the chance to make things work... so it was a time of growth and change. But now we are into a new millennium... we've got the means to see it through... America really can be great again... the world is watching to see what we do. We're stronger now than ever before... better because of mistakes in the past... we're far from perfect...but we are changing... some of our leaders are listening at last. But we have to stop dwelling... so long on the negative why does it seem that we only care... to read or watch...when something goes wrong our news is nothing but killing and despair. We have to start cheering... when something is right... and there's a lot of right in this land... good people just don't create the news... and it's time the good people...started to stand... to show the world...America is still... the land of the free...and the home of the brave. We still have heroes...ideals...and dreams... we still worship God...each in his way. I love living here...because this is my home... I love the mountains...the rivers and the trees... I love the laws...the language and the people... I love the freedom America guarantees. So if all you can do...while enjoying her freedom is to dwell on the faults...and the failures of the few... be thankful you live...in a country that allows the negative grumbling...of a person such as you. Because I love the privilege of being an American... and I welcome the duties...that privilege demands because this is by far...the best place on earth... so get up off your knees... and united we will stand. copyright 2017 james bruce joseph sievers
