Trump Administration Targets Skilled Foreign Workers With New H-1B Restrictions

The Trump Administration announced new H-1B visa restrictions on Tuesday. “While the current unemployment crisis triggered these regulatory reforms to the H-1B program, we expect that these changes will be long-lasting. Once these protections for American workers are firmly in place, it will be very difficult for any future administration to reinstate the ability of employers to deny jobs and undermine the wages of U.S. workers.” - Dan Stein, president of the Federation for American Immigration Reform

When public service is frequently misrepresented, disparaged, and denigrated, these winners, the finalists, and the sponsors of Democracy Awards have challenged that view, sharing admirable stories of public service, sacrifices for the greater good, love of country, and love of the institution of Congress. We ask you to share these stories, to tell others that there are Americans striving to improve the nation, the world, and Congress, to make it a better place. - Brad Fitch, President and CEO of Congressional Management Foundation

House passes stopgap funding bill shortly after bipartisan deal - Roll Call

The House sent to the Senate a revised stopgap funding measure this week that would extend current funding for all federal agencies through Dec. 11. The bipartisan pact would restore money for farm payments sought by lawmakers from both parties that House leaders had rejected in an earlier stopgap measure. The continuing resolution (CR) is expected to clear the Senate by early next week. Learn more via Roll Call.

‘Skinny’ coronavirus relief plan grows slightly; Senate to vote Thursday

“Today, the Senate Republican majority is introducing a new targeted proposal, focused on some of the very most urgent healthcare, education, and economic issues. It does not contain every idea our party likes. I am confident Democrats will feel the same. Yet Republicans believe the many serious differences between our two parties should not stand in the way of agreeing where we can agree and making law that helps our nation," said Senator Mitch McConnell in a recent statement. #NWYCActionAlert: H.R.3884 - MORE Act (Marijuana Decriminalization)

The House is set to vote on a bill (H.R.3884) which would decriminalize marijuana use at the federal level. The MORE Act would remove marijuana as a Schedule I substance, a category that also features other drugs, such as heroin, LSD, ecstasy, and peyote, and leave states to regulate it. It would also expunge federal marijuana convictions and arrests and approve the allocation of resources for communities affected by the war on drugs, according to the bill's text.

We were thrilled to be a sponsor of the 2020 Big Tex Golf Classic that took place this past Friday, Aug 28 at Tenison Park Golf Course. This annual tournament generates funds for scholarships that are helpful to so many kids who pursue agricultural disciplines in the next phases of their lives and Dallas ISD graduates to pursue any number of major studies. While we are sad that COVID-19 impacted the State Fair of Texas this year, we are so thankful that this tournament continues to lift students across Texas.
