R6 Mutual Self Help Mutual Self Help groups and Self Help Rehabilitation Programs The homes are built simultaneously; no one moves in until all the homes are completed.

Mutual Self Help is a USDA/Rural Development program administered by R6 Regional Council (R6) that makes housing affordable through "sweat equity." 4-8 families work together as a group under the guidance of a construction supervisor to build approximately 65% of their homes. This labor not only acts as the down payment, but can reduce the price of the home by as much as 25%. Knowledge of construc

tion is not required; R6's construction supervisor will teach the necessary skills and direct the families as they build. Households work together with each family contributing a minimum of 30 hours of labor a week for approximately 6-9 months.

Self Help Housing Project – Sigurd

The R6 Regional Council is accepting bids from licensed local contractors for work on an upcoming Self Help Housing project in Sigurd. This program allows participants to assist in building their own homes, with subcontractors completing key components of the construction. Qualified and local contractors are encouraged to apply. Bids will be accepted until Jan 31,2026.

We are seeking bids for the following services and materials:
Drywall installation
Stucco and stone work
HVAC installation
Electrical work
Plumbing
Lumber and truss packages
Window and door packages
Excavation
Concrete work
Septic systems
